Cr Kathy Duff was elected unopposed as the South Burnett’s Deputy Mayor at Thursday’s statutory post-election Council meeting.

Cr Duff has served in local government for 12 years – four with the former Wondai Shire Council, and eight with the South Burnett Regional Council.

Next to Mayor Keith Campbell, she also has the most local government experience of any serving Councillor.

Cr Duff was nominated for the position by Cr Danita Potter, seconded by Cr Ros Heit, and elected unanimously.

In her acceptance speech, Cr Duff said she was “very honoured and humbled” to have been chosen as the region’s Deputy Mayor.

She also paid tribute to her fellow Councillors.

“We have a fantastic team on board,” Cr Duff said.

“Congratulations to all our residents for electing them.”

Cr Duff noted that during her time in Council she had lived through some very tough times, including the two floods in 2011 and 2013 and a drought.

However, she was very excited about the next four years and looked forward to serving in the role.

Cr Duff was also reappointed as chair of the Natural Resource Management, Parks and Indigenous Affairs portfolio, and will sit on nine committees.
