  1. Not happy about the lack of information re the council election results. Nothing posted since 10pm on Saturday night. If this happened in the big cities all hell would break loose. The country folk are just as interested in who will lead their community into the next 4 years as the city people. As usual the country is put on the back burner … we pay/paid our taxes the same as the larger cities and expect to get a bit of the consideration that they get. Not happy … whoever runs this country will realize that without the country there would be no city …

    • The counting is done locally, Rosemary. There have been some results through today for Toowoomba and Gympie councils.

  2. Pretty ordinary when people have campaigned hard and yet there can’t be a solid effort to give the South Burnett people a result when of course cities are counted with a lot more voters in those electorate. I think the people deserve better, honestly.

  3. Don’t understand why the count is taking so long. When counting closed Saturday night 3 of 7 booths had been counted for division 2. Then come 5pm today, Monday 21/03 it became obvious that no counting for Division 2 had been done today, because according to southburnett.com.au at 5pm still only 3 of 7 booths had been done. Not good enough ECQ. You can count city council areas reasonably quickly. You should be able to count rural council areas just as quick, if not quicker, as many rural council areas don’t have near the same number of votes to count.

  4. I voted at St John’s School between 9-10 am where there was two lines of people and not enough staff at the tables to deal with the crowd. I noticed they used laptop computers to cross names off, if this is the requirement and if the Council haven’t got enough to cover the problem maybe a few more should be purchased. I am new to this town and coming from four hours west of here I would only spent no longer than 15 minutes at a polling booth, just in and out and my name crossed out the register. I agree with other comments it was not good enough to get the results of the election ASAP only just now have I found not all votes are counted.

    • The Electoral Commission of Queensland ran the 2016 Local Government Elections, not the individual councils

  5. This is bordering on the ridiculous. Why have we no results? I rang local member, they don’t know. Rang AEC, they say can’t post if council won’t send to them. They say council has until 29th of month to post results to them? Bloody stupid. Federal election decided in around nine hours, here we are days. Since booths closed, no results posted. Is council hiding results?

    • Council doesn’t run the election. It is run by the ECQ so there is no “council conspiracy” to worry about. The 30th is the date that most results will be declared as all postal votes will be returned by the 29th. However, we should have firm results well before then.

  6. I am staggered by the people commenting on this story who don’t understand how an election is organised. The Electoral Commission of Queensland organise the election. The Council plays no role in the counting process whatsoever. This is just another example of the Council being unfairly targeted and criticised regarding issues for which they have no responsibility or control. Here is a good link for anyone unsure of the process.

  7. Ask Keith, Sheena, Damien or one of your new councilors how it works they can explain it better than I can.
For years now, probably before Joh, even the small National Party shires have been getting their friends and relatives that live on the coast to register and vote in these small shires.

This gives them more federal funding and also helps to control who gets elected in the shire councils. By stalling, the Electoral Commission hopes that people lose interest and won’t notice who is voting. Have you never wondered why it is totally illegal to get a copy of the Electoral roll?

    • Hi Eddie. I have no doubt the Queensland Electoral Roll is at times out of date, usually because people do not update their addresses when they move. And I am sure we can all recall the allegations of dead people voting that have been aired at past inquiries. But if you have evidence that there has been corruption connected with THIS election, I would urge you to contact the appropriate authorities.
