South Burnett And Cherbourg On ShowSeptember 27, 2015

Dimities Cottage at Wondai is famous all over the South Burnett – and many other parts of south-east Queensland – for its high teas and smorgasbords.

Bus tours regularly pull into Wondai to inspect this large, quirky Queenslander and fill hungry tummies at the same time.

Dimities Garden Party
Guests at last year’s Spring Garden Party enjoyed sumptuous, inexpensive High Teas on the balcony of Dimities Cottage all day

Locals are regular visitors, too.

Why? Because there’s heaps of food, all cooked in the old-style country way, and it’s fresh, hearty, healthy and inexpensive.

In fact, a meal out at Dimities is often cheaper than cooking at home. And there’s no washing up afterwards!

During the South Burnett and Cherbourg On Show long weekend, Dimities Cottage will be running two great tummy-fillers for guests:

  • A Spring Garden Party from 10:00am to 3:00pm on Saturday, October 3 for High Teas; and…
  • A Lunch In The Country Smorgasbord from noon to 2:00pm on Sunday, October 4.

The Spring Garden Party is an a-la-carte affair where guests can order while they enjoy Dimities’ great gardens, which are coming back to vibrant life after the long, sub-zero nights of winter.

The Garden Party’s high tea features everything great about the South Burnett – from Lady Flo’s pumpkin scones, Bunya Nut shortbreads, peanut and chocolate cupcakes through to Chef’s sweet and savoury treats, all for just $12.50 per head.

But if you’d like something more filling, why not try one of Dimities’ famous Plowman’s Platers featuring local cheeses, olives, breads and smallgoods, then finish off with a piece of Dimities Cottage garden cheesecake while you relax on the cottage’s verandahs?

On Sunday, Dimities’ $15 per head BYO smorgasbord will allow you to eat what you like – and as much as you like – from Dimities’ wide range of wholesome starters, mains and desserts.

Visitors can also have a lot of fun on either day browsing through the cottage, which contains beautifully restored period furniture, original artworks and lots of unusual decorations, plus a great range of crafts and giftware and locally produced fresh honey, jams and condiments.

There’ll also be cottage garden plants on sale as well if you have a green thumb.

Dimities is also located right across the street from the Wondai Regional Art Gallery and right next to the beautifully restored 111-year-old Wondai Hotel.

This makes it a perfect place to rest and recuperate if you go to inspect either (or both) of these wonderful places.
