Keen cooks, photographers and adventurers can get to meet a very unusual man at the Nanango, Proston and Kingaroy libraries next month.

Chef Zane Hacker will be visiting the libraries on June 16-18 to discuss his new book “Antarctic Sundays”.

Zane spent 14 months living at Mawson Station in Antarctica.

The book follows his remarkable journey to one of the most remote places on the planet and is a memoir, travel guide and cook book rolled into one.

Antarctic Sundays takes readers from the breathtaking highs of the Antarctic environment to the challenges facing a young chef living in a remote and isolated community.

“It is an honest and frank account of a life few of us get to experience,” Kingaroy Library’s Helen Swendson said.

“Through brilliant photos, Zane takes readers to places most of us can only dream about.

“Throw in some delicious food and this account will delight all your senses.”

Zane’s recipes are easy to follow, and come with plenty of tips.

Zane will be speaking at the Nanango Library on June 16; Proston Library on June 17; and Kingaroy Library on June 18. All talks begin at 10:00am.

The Kingaroy Library is also looking at starting up a Book Club.

It will be holding a meeting at 10:00am on Monday, June 1, to discuss the idea in a friendly and relaxed way.

The library is keen to hear readers’ ideas on the types of books the club should read, as well as any other suggestions they might have about how to make the group worthwhile.

One idea the library is exploring is using Book Club sets from the Queensland State library.

These make it easy for all members to get a copy of the same book at the same time.

If you would like to know more about either the Book Club, Zane Hacker’s new book or attending his talk next month, speak to library staff in person, phone the library on (07) 4189-9256 or send an email.
