A 30-year-old Kingaroy man who allegedly challenged police after they were called to a domestic incident late on Monday night was tasered before being arrested.

Officer-in-charge of Kingaroy Police, Senior Sergeant Duane Frank, said officers were called to a disturbance in the upstairs accommodation area of a hotel in Kingaroy Street.

An altercation was allegedly taking place between a  man and woman known to each other.

“Police endeavoured to ascertain what had occurred but the male was extremely volatile and affected by alcohol and / or other substances,” Snr Sgt Frank said.

“He was uncooperative with police and extremely aggressive. He challenged police who were forced to deploy a taser to subdue him.”

The man was then taken into custody.

He has been charged with breaching a domestic violence order and obstructing police.

“The decision by police to use a taser is not taken lightly,” Snr Sgt Frank said.

“But it is one of the options that first response police have. It was decided that for his own safety, for the safety of others in the area, and the safety of police, that the taser be deployed.”

Snr Sgt Frank said the man had suffered no residual effects from the taser.
