The damaged interior of the Nanango flats (Photos supplied)

July 23, 2014

The recent frosts have made life uncomfortable for many South Burnett residents, but for one Nanango landlord, they have also caused thousands of dollars damage.

During a recent frost, the water pipes in a Nanango flat complex froze and cracked.

The only problem was, they were running through the roof cavity of the building, which meant when the water melted, it leaked through the ceiling into the living spaces below.

Most of the damage was caused when parts of the ceiling collapsed.

southburnett.com.au spoke to a local real estate agent who said that having water pipes in the ceiling was not uncommon.

However, the agent said the damage showed why the pipes should be wrapped in lagging to help insulate them from the cold.

The owner of the property did not wish to comment.
