A man already serving an intensive correction order – and on a suspended sentence – was refused bail when he appeared in Kingaroy Magistrates Court today on fresh charges.

Gavin John Westwood was charged with break and enter, receiving tainted property, stealing, committing a public nuisance, obstructing police and contravening a domestic violence order.

He stood crying in the dock as Magistrate Mark Bucknall refused bail and remanded him in custody.

Mr Bucknall said the evidence against Westwood was strong and police would allege he threatened to use an offensive weapon.

As Westwood was about to leave the dock, a woman came forward from the public gallery carrying a young baby.

Westwood called out “I just want to hold my baby” multiple times as police removed him from the courtroom.

He will reappear in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on June 26 via videolink.
