Twelve students from Years 9 to 12 represented Murgon State High Cattle Team at the Murgon Show this year.
Everyone turned up Friday after school to compete in the cattle judging competitions.
They all looked great dressed up to impress the judge.
After examining the four heifers in the stud cattle section, and deciding on which they thought were the best, Reilly Christoffel, Kurt Dingle, Stephen Beddows, Mitchell Brown, Elle-May Clarke and Stephanie Johnstone all had enough points to be able to move into the finals.
They then had to stand up and explain why they had placed the cattle as they had. After tallying the points awarded by the over judge, Kurt Dingle was placed second in the 15 years and under class, while Stephanie Johnstone took out third in the 16 and over class.
Then it was straight down to the Prime Cattle yards to judge some more cattle.
This time four students made it in to their respective finals and all then took a ribbon home: Katherine Rose (2nd) and Reilly Christoffel (4th) in the 15 years and under class, with Stephanie Johnstone (1st) and Elle-May Clarke (2nd) in the 16 and over class.
The final competition for the night was the junior cattle handlers class.
Katherine Rose and Stephanie Johnstone were up against some very stiff competition in their classes but managed to be selected through to the finals. A big congratulation needs to go to Stephanie for placing second in her class.
But the excitement wasn’t quite over.
The announcement of the placings in the Richie O’Neill Show Society Student of the year saw Stephanie Johnstone cap off a great night with a first, Jessica Shailer taking out second and Stephen Beddows third.
Well done for being such great ambassadors for Murgon State High School!
On Saturday it was time for the preparation and showing of the two Droughtmaster heifers. Although they didn’t bring home any ribbons they performed well for their first show.
