A total of 441 vouchers have been issued to families in the Nanango Electorate for children to join local sporting clubs under the State Government’s “Get Started” program.

Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington said the latest round of the “Get Started” program had been the most successful to date, with more than 20,000 vouchers issued across Queensland.

“Each voucher is worth up to $150 and helps families who can least afford it to sign up their children to sports and recreation clubs,” Mrs Frecklington said.

“I’m so pleased that 441 young people from my electorate will now be able to participate in a sport and enjoy time being active.”

Sport Minister Steve Dickson said more than 28 per cent of the applicants who received a voucher had provided feedback that they had not previously played club sport.

“That’s exactly what the Newman Government was striving to deliver through this election commitment—to get more children and young people active,” he said.

“Even more significantly, around 80 per cent of vouchers issued have gone to Health Care or Pensioner Concession Card holders, the people that need our help the most.

“We have also received a huge response from clubs this round, with more than 3300 clubs now registered for the program, including at least 70 registrations in the last month.”

Mr Dickson reminded the successful applicants to ensure their vouchers were redeemed at a Get Started-registered club by May 15.
