A 27-year-old Kingaroy man appeared briefly in Kingaroy Magistrates Court this afternoon charged with attempted armed robbery following an incident at the McDonald’s Family Restaurant in Kingaroy last Monday.

Police will allege that Benjamin Roy Clarke produced a large curved blade and threatened a female staff member at the store on December 9 but escaped with no money.

Magistrate Barry Barrett remanded Clarke in custody to reappear by videolink in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on February 20 for committal mention.

Duty solicitor Mark Werner, for Clarke, asked that a brief of evidence be supplied by the prosecution but said a “full brief” would not be required.

Clarke, who was wearing black board shorts, a black T-shirt and had bare feet, was arrested on a return-to-prison warrant.

Bail was not applied for.
