A truck driver has been airlifted to hospital with fractures after a B-double was involved in a single-vehicle accident this morning 5km east of Chinchilla.

The cattle truck jack-knifed on the Warrego Highway about 4:50am with one of the trailers ending on its side.

The driver was trapped in the crushed cabin of the rig for four hours as emergency crews worked to free him.

The RACQ CareFlight Rescue helicopter landed on the highway as the rescue continued.

The man was eventually freed and airlifted to the Toowoomba Base Hospital in a stable condition with limb fractures.

The highway was blocked in both directions for several hours before being re-opened to a single lane.

It is expected to be fully re-opened this afternoon.
