Wild Horse FM presenters have been going back to school.

Six students are completing a 12-module Certificate III course in Media with Community Media Training Organisation training officer Bronwen Loder.

The dining room at Heritage House in Yarraman is the school room and practical work is conducted in the two modern studios at Wild Horse FM.

The course is being conducted over six 12-hour weekends over six months.

Early modules cover the basic essentials of workplace health and safety and media legislation as laid down by the Australian Communications and Media Authority.

This month’s syllabus started on the nitty gritty of running a community radio station.

“Develop and extend critical and creative thinking skills” opened Saturday morning’s school room and “Plan and prepare programs” wound up the weekend.

Brainstorming, Mind Mapping, De Bonos hats, and Word Salad were just a few of the techniques used by groups to counter “preconceptions and assumptions”.

And yes, there is homework. The first item in module 1 is a 31 question quiz.
