A Pimpimbudgee man is being treated for second degree burns in Brisbane after an accident at his home on Middle Creek-Cooyar Road on Tuesday afternoon.

The man was believed to be working on a vehicle in his shed when it burst into flames.

He managed to extinguish the fire himself before emergency services personnel arrived but suffered partial thickness burns to both his legs and the left side of his back.

He was transported by road ambulance to Kingaroy Hospital before being airlifted to the Royal Brisbane Hospital by the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

Police and firefighters from the Maidenwell and Brooklands rural brigades and the Yarraman urban unit attended the incident.
