Artist Mr Willie Nelson has started work to refresh the street murals in Nanango.

“Mr Nelson is a sketch artist and he painted the murals originally in 1998,” Cr Barry Green said.

“A refresh of the murals will add to the look of the town especially with the other streetscape work that is about to be undertaken in Nanango.”

As well as the murals in Nanango, Mr Nelson will be assisting local youth with painting graffiti art on the new climbing walls at River Road Park in Kingaroy, Pioneer Park in Nanango and the Murgon skate park.

South Burnett Regional Council has secured funding from the State Government’s Proceeds of Crime Act grant program to cover Mr Nelson’s costs.

“It is a great opportunity for the youth of our region to work closely with this talented artist and I encourage any local budding artists to make the most of this opportunity to work with Mr Nelson,” Mayor Wayne Kratzmann said.
