It’s amazing how much good a few morning teas can do … staff from the South Burnett Regional Council have raised more the $815 for Angel Flight just by holding a few morning teas at work and via some books sales at libraries. And they’re hoping by the end of the week this figure could top $1000!

Angel Flight helps rural and regional residents attend “regular” medical appointments in the city, such as cancer patients who have to visit radiology units for repeated treatments.

Volunteer pilots pick up the patients and fly them to the nearest airstrip. “Earth Angels” then take over, driving the patient to the hospital and then returning them back to the airstrip for their flight home.

Council Executive Liaison Officer Sheena Uebergang said council employees were supporting Angel Flight as the charity had been “adopted” this year by Local Government Managers Australia.

She said staff had another morning tea planned for this week, which would hopefully push the fund-raising over $1000.

A cheque for $815.50 was presented to Brisbane pilots Mike Levy and Nick Clarke after they flew into Kingaroy Airport on Tuesday afternoon.

The pair have been criss-crossing Queensland for the past 16 days in a tiny, bright yellow Foxbat aircraft raising awareness (and funds) for Angel Flight.

Their plan was to visit 44 towns in 42 different local government areas in 17 days. They left Caboolture on August 12 and will fly into Dunwich on August 28.

Nick said there were 2500 Angel Flight pilots and 3700 Earth Angels registered with Angel Flight.
