August 5, 2013

South Burnett Musical Comedy Society members are practising hard ahead of the opening night on August 16 of their latest production, Oliver!

The Kingaroy-based group is bringing the famous musical adaptation of Oliver Twist to the stage for a strictly limited run of performances.

The cast, which includes a large group of children, has been working on the production since March this year.

Oliver!, which was written by Lionel Bart, follows the classic Charles Dickens tale of the orphan Oliver Twist who escapes life in the workhouse only to end up with a gang of pickpockets.

Bart’s musical adaptation premiered in London’s West End in 1960, then became a successful Broadway production in 1963 before being turned into a Academy Award-winning musical film in 1968.

“Oliver!” will be performed at Kingaroy Town Hall on:

  • Saturday, August 17 – 7:30pm
  • Sunday, August 18 – 1:30pm
  • Friday, August 23 – 7:30pm
