Work is due to start soon in Nanango on Stage 1 of the South Burnett Regional Council’s streetscaping project in Nanango.

The first spot to get a makeover will be the Scott Carpark area in Henry Street, opposite the Nanango Courthouse.

Mayor Wayne Kratzmann has met with Cr Barry Green and Natural Resources and Parks Manager Greg Griffiths on site to discuss the plan.

“This is a great day as it heralds the start of the streetscape work announced in the recent Budget,” Mayor Kratzmann said.

“Residents and businesses have been telling Council it is about time and what a thrill it is to know that the tenders for the car park work have been received and are being assessed so that the work can begin.”

Cr Green said he was passionate to see Nanango reclaim its position as a major tourist destination.

“What a great spot for travellers to pull over and take time to explore this town, its unique laneways and murals, coffee shops, and attractions such as the Energy Centre,” he said.

“The plan for Scott Carpark will mean it is the place to easily park the Winnebago or caravan and enjoy a short walk to the centre of town.”

Council expects to start earthmoving at the site within a few weeks with work planned to be finished in three months.
