The Bendigo Bank has donated $11,000 to the recently re-named RACQ CareFlight Rescue helicopter to upgrade a fuel tanker used by the service.

The grant is though the bank’s Community Enterprise Foundation.

Bendigo said the not-for-profit organisation was awarded the grant in recognition of its involvement during the 2013 Bundaberg floods, where the fleet of helicopters airlifted more than 100 people to safety.

RACQ CareFlight spokesman John Kennedy said monetary contributions like this helped keep the service in the air and saving local lives.

“Our existing fuel trailer is in urgent need of an upgrade and the improvements made possible by the Bendigo Bank grant will provide ease and increased manoeuvrability during refuelling,” he said.

The new fuel tanker will be commissioned in the coming months.
