Toowoomba Regional Council Mayor Paul Antonio has welcomed news that the State Government plans to review proposed pay increases for State MPs and in turn, Local Government representatives in Queensland.
“After a week of speculation this decision is a step in the right direction,” Mayor Antonio said.
“While councils across Queensland were awaiting advice from the Remuneration Tribunal, I understand this latest move by the government means the tribunal may delay any decision, pending a change to the legislation by the State Government.”
Mayor Antonio believes the government should have investigated the full impact of the proposed changes before making the initial announcement.
“The way this issue has been dealt with by the State Government has caused a great deal of angst, which could have been avoided.
“My colleagues and I remain focused on working hard for the people of our region – the sooner this matter is resolved the better.”
