Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington has invited South Burnett Regional Council to apply for funding under Round 2 of the Royalties for the Regions program.
Acting Premier Jeff Seeney announced the program’s expansion to 64 councils across the State last week.
Round 2 will open on July 15 with a total of $95 million available to fund community infrastructure, roads and floodplain security projects.
Mrs Frecklington said the announcement of this new, expanded round of funding, would help areas such as the South Burnett get critical projects off the ground.
“The previous government’s neglect of the regions means that hundreds of submissions are expected, and the Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning will visit the South Burnett Regional Council to help ensure they submit priority projects with the best chance of success,” Mrs Frecklington said.
“Round 1 was confined to 14 councils, but saw 18 much-needed projects funded across the State, so it’s great to see the program extended to all councils supporting the resources sector.
“These projects will ultimately support these resource communities and help ensure they thrive and grow.”
Mrs Frecklington said councils would have until mid-August to lodge Expressions of Interest for funding and approved projects would be announced by the end of the year.
Royalties for the Regions is a $495 million four-year initiative to support Queensland’s regions to provide critical community infrastructure, roads and flood mitigation projects.
It will be followed by annual Royalties for the Regions program commitment of $200 million.
