Ratepayers in the Toowoomba Regional Council area will pay on average an extra 4.5 per cent in general rates following the release of the Council’s 2013-14 Budget this morning.
Deputy Mayor Cr Mike Williams said the year’s Budget reflected sound financial practice and was the result “of a rigorous Budget process”.
“The average residential ratepayer in the Toowoomba region will experience a 3.95 per cent increase in their rates and charges this financial year,” he said.
“The general rate will increase on average by 4.5 per cent which is below our 10-year financial model as approved by Queensland Treasury, but will vary depending on their property valuations determined by the State Government through the Department of Natural Resources and Mines.”
Highlights of the Budget for Yarraman and Cooyar residents include:
- Upgrade of the Yarraman Swimming Pool – $30,000
- New toilet block at Cooyar – $133,658
- Fencing of the Yarraman council depot – $10,000
The ongoing work on Yarraman water and sewerage projects will also continue:
- Yarraman Water Treatment Plant to Reservoir #2 trunk water main – $900,000
- Ted Pukallus Weir, Yarraman – completion of flood restoration works – $800,000
