The South Burnett Regional Council could get a grant of up to $546,234 from the Federal Government if it can propose a “shovel-ready” project to Canberra in the next four weeks, but will only get $30,000 if it doesn’t.
The money is part of a $9 million allocation from Round 5 of the Regional Development Australia Fund available to councils in the Maranoa electorate, which will open tomorrow.
The funds can be used to build or renew infrastructure like sports facilities, libraries, town halls and playgrounds.
Member for Maranoa Bruce Scott would like to see all 17 local governments in his electorate propose projects which will soak up the entire $9 million.
“It has been my personal mission to make the Government understand the true meaning of the word “regional” and it seems like the message is seeping through, with the bush finally receiving much-needed RDAF funds,” Mr Scott said.
“The Maranoa has survived devastating drought, floods and fires and this funding will go a long way to getting the electorate back on track.”
The Regional Development Australia Fund is a $150 million fund for eligible councils to use for capital infrastructure projects.
Councils in the electorate have until July 22 to submit applications.
