South Burnett councillors are going to be kept even busier – and wearing more hats – following the creation of five new portfolios at today’s Council meeting.

Mayor Wayne Kratzmann also announced a re-shuffle of the original 10 portfolios created after the 2012 council election.

The new portfolios created today are:

  • Communities
  • Information Technology
  • Property
  • Sport and Recreation, and…
  • Indigenous Affairs

They’ll join the SBRC’s existing 10 portfolios:

  • Governance
  • Economic Development and Tourism
  • Finance
  • Roads
  • Water and Wastewater
  • Planning
  • Waste
  • Art, Culture and Heritage
  • Natural Resource Management
  • Parks and Environment

Mayor Kratzmann will continue to chair the Governance and Economic Development & Tourism portfolios, while Deputy Mayor Keith Campbell will continue to chair Finance and take on the new Communities portfolio.

Cr Damien Tessmann will drive the Roads portfolio, while Cr Debra Palmer will move out of Arts, Culture and Heritage to take on two completely new portfolios: Property and Information Technology.

Cr Barry Green will continue as chair of Water and Wastewater, and also take on leadership of the newly created Sport and Recreation portfolio.

Cr Cheryl Dalton will retain the Planning and Waste portfolios, and resume her former role as head of Arts, Culture and Heritage.

Cr Kathy Duff will continue her role as chair of the Natural Resources Management and Parks Environment portfolios, and also take on the new Indigenous Affairs portfolio.

Cr Kratzmann said the reallocation of some existing portfolios and the introduction of new ones was simply a case of “fine tuning” a system that was “working very well”.

He said the new portfolios recognised there were some areas of Council’s operations that merited more specialised attention.

The pottfolio changes also affect which councillors will represent the SBRC on internal and external committees:
