South Burnett Regional Council RADF Liaison Officer Michael Hunter, Promotions Officer Sheena Uebergang, Mayor Wayne Kratzmann and Member for  Nanango Deb Frecklington on the red carpet with Magda Szubanski in Nanango

May 18, 2013

The red carpet was rolled out at the 7th Big Screen Festival in Nanango on Friday night for the special guest star, actor and comedian Magda Szubanski.

Magda mingled with invited guests in a private function before entering the packed Nanango Cultural Centre foyer to sign autographs and pose for photographs with fans (and two living statues who added a golden touch to the evening’s entertainment).

The crowd of about 200 then moved into the adjoining auditorium to watch Magda’s latest film, “Goddess”, described as a “feel good fantasy film” about a housewife who becomes a cyber sensation.

The Big Screen Festival, which began on May 15, continues until Sunday afternoon with screenings of movies including Babe, The Sapphires and Return To Nim’s Island.

Unlike recent years where some movies were shown in Kingaroy, this year all the movies are being screened in Nanango.

Magda, who is probably best known for her roles in Fast Forward, Kath and Kim, and Babe, will be one of the Fashion on the Field judges at Saturday’s Nanango Races.

The Big Screen Festival is a project of the National Film and Sound Archive.
