Ergon Energy crews from Yarraman and Kingaroy – as well as private contractors – have been called on to help restore power to parts of the Toowoomba Regional Council area still blacked out after yesterday afternoon’s storms.

The Toowoomba Regional Council area recorded 8821 lightning strikes during last night’s storms, which also featured fierce winds and rain.

An Ergon Energy spokesman said some customers would not have their power restored until the weekend because of the widespread damage.

More than 10,000 customers had their power supply interrupted and about 500 of these remained without supply early this afternoon.

The spokesman said the focus has been on restoring power to as many customers as possible as soon as possible.

Outside the Toowoomba region, about 180 Ergon customers are still without power due to last night’s storms, mostly on SWER lines to outlying areas.

Customers in storm-affected areas who do not have power back on – particularly where their neighbours do – have been asked to telephone Ergon Energy on 13-22-96 to report a fault if they have not already done so.
