Yarraman students were eager to learn more about the Reading Bug Egg

December 10, 2012

The rare “Reading Bug Egg” rolled into Yarraman State School on Friday for a rest and to hear a whole new bunch of stories.

The students at Yarraman were very excited to see the egg and are looking forward to reading some exciting stories to it during their last week of school.

Each student was given a “Bug Bag” to take home with information on healthy eating, getting active, the benefits of reading and being Sun Smart.

The Egg will be at the school until Friday before it travels back to Nanango for a stay at CTC Nanango Hub & Community Kids.

“It is very important that we keep reading to the Egg over the school holidays, as we hope to see it hatch in the first few weeks back at school in 2013,” Egg curator Berneice Hilly from RHealth said.

Here’s where you can catch the Egg:

  • December 14-21 – CTC Community Kids
  • December 21-January 4 – Nanango Energy Centre
  • January 5 – Nanango Markets
  • January 7-12 – Nanango Library
  • January 14-19 – Raine & Horne & Evolution Hair Studio Nanango
  • January 21-26 – Heritage Bank & Orchy’s Fresh Fruit Mart
  • January 28-31 – Nanango Primary Schools

Children who read to the egg four times will receive four stickers for their Reading Bug bookmark. Children who take their completed bookmark to Nanango Library will receive a free book.

The team at Nanango Library have already given out 30 books to budding Nanango readers but there’s still a lot of reading to do.
