Cherbourg State School student Tyreece Gyemore earned a week of free school lunches by setting a new 11-year-old boys’ high jump record at the school’s two-day sports carnival held this week.

Teachers were kept busy continually raising the bar a centimetre at a time until Tyreece’s success ran out at the 128cm mark.

This height was achieved using only a scissor-kick style.

Fosby Flops are banned due to school regulations and all competitors have to land on their feet.

Tyreece proved he had springs in his legs and principal Peter Sansby said it was a great achievement.
