Jason Ford and Mark Olive … cooking for the South Burnett

May 4, 2012

Celebrity chef Mark Olive – aka “the Black Olive” – demonstrated his skills and shared his knowledge with audiences throughout the South Burnett this week.

He hosted free healthy cooking demonstrations at Blackbutt, Cherbourg, Kingaroy, Nanango and Wondai as part of the South Burnett Regional Council’s Healthy Communities Initiative.

Local chef Jason Ford appeared with Mark on stage during the demonstrations.

“Mark was warm and charismatic and kept everyone entertained with stories of travelling the country filming his various TV shows, and cooking for Oprah Winfrey,” Jason said.

“He also shared with the audience his wealth of knowledge of indigenous herbs, spices, meats and fruits.”

Mark, who is a proud Bundjalung man, is Australia’s most celebrated indigenous chef.

He has been a chef for more than 25 years and has starred in his own TV show, “The Outback Cafe”, and become a successful author.
