South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
Wondai Winter Race Day
ABANDONED: The South Burnett Race Club will be holding their annual Wondai Winter Race Day meeting at the Wondai race track in Baynes Street, Wondai from 12:30pm today (the first race leaves the barriers around 1:30pm). The fashion theme of today's meeting is "Classic Black & White" and guests are encouraged to dress to this theme to be in the running for great prizes. As usual, the meeting will feature an on-course TAB; live telecasts of Brisbane and interstate races (along with interstate betting fluctuations); a vigorous undercover betting ring; a great BBQ and bar and a Punters Podium. The always popular Lady Luck Cocktail Bar will be in full swing too, along with the track's canteen, and admission is just $10. Today's meeting will feature a full card of five races. PS: Bring cash - there's no ATM or EFTPOS on the grounds. Note: This meeting was abandoned on Friday, July 5 due to concerns over the weather.
Proston Men's Shed
The Proston Men's Shed will be meeting at their building at 5-23 Rodney Street, Proston from 9:00am until around 12:00 noon today. The Men's Shed is open every day (except Sundays) and new members are always very welcome! More details? Phone the Men's Shed on 0477-235-429
Nanango Country Markets
The Nanango Show Society will be holding their regular monthly Country Markets at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street from 6:00am to around 12:00 noon today. As usual, the markets will feature a wide variety of craft stalls, new and used goods, plants, poultry and pets, but they'll be operating in a COVID Safe way. The Nanango Markets are the largest rural market in south east Queensland and attract up to 420 stallholders. But new stallholders are always very welcome too! More info? Nanango Men's Shed
The Nanango Men's Shed at the corner of Mt Stanley Road and Heathermore Lane, Nanango will be open from 8:30am to around 12:30pm today for its regular Saturday get-together. South Burnett PCYC Open Day - Murgon
The South Burnett PCYC in Macalister Street, Murgon will be holding their annual Open Day from 10:00am this morning through until 1:00pm this afternoon, allowing regulars and visitors to inspect the wide range of gym, fitness and sports facilities they have available, as well as try out a class or chance their hand at basketball or pickleball. There'll also be a sausage sizzle in operation and the chance to win a 12-month gym membership. Everyone is welcome and there's no admission. More details? Take 4 - Nanango
The Nanango Theatre Company will be presenting the final performance of latest production "Take 4" (ie four one-act plays by different playwrights) at their theatre at the corner of Elk and George Streets, Nanango at 2:00pm this afternoon and again at 7:00pm tonight. Yarraman Men's Shed

Biggest Morning Tea - Mondure
The Mondure Mob will be hosting a Biggest Morning Tea to raise funds for cancer research at Mondure Hall in McConnell Way, Mondure from 9:30am this morning. The $15 entry fee will include a great morning tea and lunch, and there'll also be lots of games, activities and stalls to keep everyone amused. PS: There's no EFTPOS facilities available at Mondure so please bring cash.
James Lynch Junior Duo - Kingaroy
The James Lynch Junior Duo (ie David Lynch and Rob Fitz-Herbert) will be performing at the Commercial Hotel at the corner of Glendon and Haly Streets, Kingaroy from 7:30pm until late tonight. Firearms Licence Safety Course - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Clay Target Shooting Club will be running a Firearms Licence Safety Course at their clubhouse on the Kingaroy-Cooyar Road west of Kingaroy from 9:00am this morning. The course will cover Category A and B firearms (ie a normal licence) and course fees are $170, which includes a BBQ lunch supplied by the club. More details? Charity Bowls, Trivia and Bingo Day - Wondai
A Charity Bowls, Bingo and Trivia Day to raise funds for the Children's Hospital Foundation will be held at the Wondai Country Club on the Bunya Highway north of Wondai's CBD today. A BBQ will fire up at 12:00 noon and bowls will get underway at 1:00pm for teams of 4 (with a maximum of 96 bowlers taking part, so get in early if you want to secure some spots). Meanwhile - in the clubhouse - there'll be fun trivia and bingo games in teams of 3 to 6 players, along with multi-draw raffles. A licensed bar will be operating too. Pig On A Spit Night - Wooroolin
The Grand Hotel on the Bunya Highway at Wooroolin will be holding their monthly Pig On A Spit Night from 5:30pm until late this evening. Apart from a great roast pork meal there'll also be a Lucky Door prize, raffles and entertainment. Tickets are $32.50 for adults, $21 for pensioners, $16 for high school students and $10 for primary school children (U5s are free). In addition, tonight's get-together will feature incredible meat tray raffles and an auction to help raise funds for The Flying Peanut team taking part in this year's Variety Club Rally. The starting line is adjacent to the Roy Emerson Museum, off Bowman Road. Runners follow a course along the former railway line and the parkrun group is free to join. All you need to do is register (once) online (it's officially called the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail parkrun) and bring the printed barcode to any parkrun event.
Sled Dog Training Weekend - Benarkin
Members of Sled Dog Racing Queensland will be holding a training weekend at Forest Road in the Benarkin State Forest to train their sled dogs. Racing will take place this afternoon and early tomorrow morning across a range of events, with most SDRQ members will be camping at the Settlers Rest area in Benarkin to take advantage of its toilets and showers. Spectators are very welcome to come and watch the dogs train and/or find out more information about this unusual club's activities.
Murgon Men's Shed
The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding a meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the shed next to the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.
Publican's Run & Jam Session - Wondai
The Cecil Hotel will be holding their monthly Publican's Run for motorcyclists this morning. Participants should assemble with their motorcycles outside the hotel in Mackenzie Street at 10:00am. After this, they'll be taken on a 2 hour mystery (with one or two pit stops) before returning to the Cecil for lunch. There's no fee to take part in the Run and lunch is optional as well. The Cloyna Hall committee will be presenting "A Night Of Country Music" with entertainer Shane Hauschildt at the Hall at 41 Cloyna Road West in Cloyna from 6:00pm until late tonight. There'll also be a licensed bar in operation and a sausage sizzle and burgers on offer, along with raffles and a lucky door prize. Admission is just $10 for adults and $5 for high school students (primary school and below are free). However, there's no EFTPOS on site so please bring cash.
Saturday Rugby League - Cherbourg
After time off for the school holidays, the local rugby league competition will return at Jack O'Chin Oval in Broadway Street, Cherbourg today. At 12:15pm, the U16s South Burnett Eagles will play the Waves Tigers, followed by the U17s girls at 1:30pm with a clash between Cherbourg's Hornets and Bundaberg. After this, the first A-grade match will start at 2:45pm when the Kingaroy Red Ants play the Murgon Mustangs, followed at 4:30pm with a match between Cherbourg's Hornets and Nanango's Stags. A canteen will be operating in the grounds, some pretty good rugby league action is guaranteed and spectators and supporters are very welcome.
Reserve Forces Meet & Greet - Wondai
A Meet & Greet for participants in tomorrow's Reserve Forces Day ceremony in Wondai will be held at the Digger's Club in Mackenzie Street at 5:30pm tonight, followed by dinner. Everyone is welcome.
Alcoholics Anonymous - Blackbutt
Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other to help solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for A.A. membership. AA isn't allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organisation or institution. AA meets in Blackbutt in the small hall next to the church at the corner of Gladys and James streets from 1:30pm to 2:30pm every Saturday, with tea and coffee provided.
