The intersections of the D’Aguilar Highway and Mary Street – which is used to access Coolabunia State School – and Coolabunia Road (where the red ute is waiting) will also be getting an upgrade

A notorious blackspot on the Bunya Highway at Kingaroy, the site of several serious accidents in recent years, will get a $600,000 makeover in the latest round of Federal Government funding.

A right turn treatment, and a separate left turn lane for vehicles travelling south, will be installed at the intersection of the Bunya Highway, Taylors Road and Meiers Road.

Another dangerous South Burnett highway stretch, located near Coolabunia State School, will be getting a $1.05 million upgrade.

Work will be undertaken to improve the intersections of the D’Aguilar Highway and Coolabunia Road (the Bora Ring turn-off) and Mary Street (near “Cool” the Koala).

The funding is part of Black Spot Program funding announced on Friday by Federal Transport Minister Darren Chester.

Mr Chester said $5.49 million would be spent to fix 20 black spots on roads in the Maranoa Electorate.

He said the projects were recommended by a panel of independent road safety experts and would be delivered during the course of 2016-17.

The Federal Government has committed $500 million to the Black Spot Program from 2014-15 to 2018-19.

According to the Black Spot Program website, to qualify for funding a “black spot” has to have had a minimum crash history of two casualty crashes over five years, or 0.13 casualty crashes per kilometre per year over five years.
