Kingaroy has been selected as the venue for the 2015 State Council meeting of the LNP, the first time the South Burnett has been chosen as host.

LNP Wide Bay Regional chairman Damien Tessmann said there would be more than 200 delegates coming for the event which will run over the weekend of November 21-22.

Each State electorate will send two representatives plus there will be representatives from each Federal division.

All LNP State MPs – as well as Queensland National and Liberal MHRs and Senators – will also be in attendance.

Cr Tessmann said a cocktail function would be held on the Friday night, and a dinner on the Saturday night.

The rest of Saturday and half of Sunday would be set aside for the State Council meeting which will be held at Kingaroy Town Hall.

He said he had been “pushing and pushing” for a town in the Wide Bay Region to host the meeting, and he was really excited Kingaroy had been selected.

“It’s quite an honour when you realise it’s usually towns the size of Rockhampton, Cairns, Townsville or Toowoomba which are chosen,” he said.

Cr Tessmann said the State Council meeting should provide a boost for the local economy.

“You could also say it is a ‘reward’ for the seat of Nanango, too, as it was the only LNP seat which increased its margin at the last tough State election,” he said.

“We have been given the guernsey over towns like Bundaberg and Hervey Bay.”

The State Council is the next level down in the LNP from the State Convention but it is still a policy-making body.

Representatives from each State Electoral Council and Federal Divisional Council bring along resolutions to be debated which can then become party policy.

In fact, it was at a State Council meeting that the LNP’s policy stand opposing same-sex marriage was first endorsed.

There are three LNP branches in the South Burnett: Wondai, Proston-Durong and South Burnett.
