Mundubbera bowler Kelvin Wiley, who plays at Binjour, took home the coveted Burnett District Men’s Singles title in a Champion of Champions match played at Yarraman on Saturday.

He defeated Murgon’s champion, Moffatdale school teacher Aaron Jones, 25-18 in a match which had the gallery on the edge of their seats.

Jones got away to an early 6-1 lead and appeared to have the green worked out nicely.

Wiley caught up a little bit and was down only 7-8 before half time.

He scooted away from there and the match was really in no doubt for the second half of the game, with Wiley taking out the title.

Both Wiley and Jones had comfortable semi-final wins on Saturday morning.

Wiley beat Kingaroy’s Glen Turner 25-12, and Jones upset the gallery by easily downing local favourite Bill Holmes 25-8.

The District Championship results in detail:

  • First Semi-Final: Aaron Jones (Murgon) def. Bill Holmes (Yarraman) 25-8
  • Second Semi-Final: Kelvin Wiley (Binjour) def. Glen Turner (Kingaroy) 25-12
  • Final: Kelvin Wiley def. Arron Jones 25-18
