Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington is encouraging youth people from the South Burnett to apply for a new youth ambassador program.

Mrs Frecklington said the State Government was looking for young people aged 12 to 21 to apply for the positions which will aim to promote the new Queensland Youth Strategy and the interests of young people.

“This is a new program the Newman Government has introduced to showcase, celebrate and acknowledge young people who are working hard to reach their potential, as well as those who are inspiring or supporting other young people to do the same,” Mrs Frecklington said.

“This is a terrific opportunity for young people from our region to get involved and promote the needs of youth living in the country. We know there are already many young people in region living the values and goals of the strategy and being excellent role models for their peers, family and community.

“We are looking for six of these exceptional young people to represent each of the six areas of connection in the Queensland Youth Strategy: family, friends and social networks; education, training and employment; health and well-being; volunteering and participation; supports and services; and arts and culture.”

The six ambassadors will each receive a $1000 bursary for personal or professional development, and will be supported to attend a personal development workshop in Brisbane.

Applications close on Monday, June 2.
