South Burnett Pantry - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Pantry will be open from 8:30am to 12:30pm today at 22 Stolzenberg Road in Kingaroy. The Pantry is a not-for-profit registered charity run by a Board of Management and staffed by volunteers, and it helps low income families, couples and singles stretch their shopping dollar further. The Pantry offers $40 pantry hampers that contain most of the food and personal cleaning items that most people need to get through part of the week (though you'll need to shop elsewhere for extras or special items). Friday Night At The Shed - Nanango
The Shed in Little Drayton Street, Nanango (just next to the Scott Car Park) will be open from 7:30pm until late tonight for local musicians and anyone else who enjoys music to come along, bring their instruments and jam in a relaxed and informal setting (or just sit on the Shed's lounges, listen in and enjoy the wide variety of talent on offer). Friday Afternoon Croquet - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Croquet Club will be playing croquet games on the third green at the rear of the Kingaroy Bowls Club at 141 Youngman Street, Kingaroy from 3:00pm this afternoon. Men Of The Shed Camp-Out Weekend - Booie
The first day of a three-day Men Of The Shed Camp-Out Weekend will be held at Booie Hall at 1226 Booie Road in Booie, kicking off at 6:00pm tonight and continuing until lunchtime Sunday. Advanced Tai Chi - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Arthritis & Osteoporosis Support Group will be running an advanced Tai Chi class at SBcare at the corner of Avoca and Kingaroy Streets in Kingaroy from 9:00am to 10:00am this morning. The classes aim to help relieve pain and improve quality of life, relieve stress, sharpen concentration, and improve balance, posture and mobility. Friday Night Live - Murgon
The South Burnett PCYC in Macalister Street, Murgon will be holding their latest "Friday Night Live" from 6:00pm to 9:00pm this evening. Friday Night Live is open to all primary school and high school students and the get-together features music and a range of fun activities including XBox games, stadium games, pool and more. Food and soft drinks are available from the PCYC canteen and free bus travel is available from Goomeri and Wondai, with pick up at 5:30pm (6:00pm in Goomeri) and return after 9:00pm. Cuppa And Chat Group - Kingaroy
The Cuppa and Chat Group will be holding its weekly meeting at The Biscuit Tin behind St Mary's Church at 15 Albert Street, Kingaroy from 10:00am to around 11:00am this afternoon. QRRRWN Barambah Branch Meeting
The Barambah branch of the Queensland Rural, Regional and Remote Women's Network will be holding their first Friday of the month meeting today. Art Exhibition Opening - Wondai
The Wondai Regional Art Gallery on the roundabout at Wondai will be opening their latest monthly exhibition with a wine and cheese tasting at 6:00pm tonight. This month the gallery will be hosting “Core Of My Heart, My Country", a collection of rarely seen works from the private collection of Gallery patron Brian Tucker, which will fill the front and main galleries; and recent works from Barambah Pottery and the Yidding Arts Group in the rear gallery, as well as acrylics by Rocko Langton and Maurice Mickelo. Meanwhile, children from Cherbourg State School will be exhibiting works of their own in Kidz Korner. As usual, tonight's opening will also feature great hot and cold finger foods and punch, along with wine tastings from Clovely Estate, live entertainment and lots of fun socialising. The Stools - Kingaroy

Queensland Winter Craft Festival - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Regional Art Gallery in Haly Street, Kingaroy (opposite the peanut silos) will be opening their third annual Queensland Winter Craft Festival at 10:00am this morning. For the next two months the Gallery will be showcasing a wide variety of locally produced crafts, and today guests will be able to view the first month's offerings (a new range will be offered next month). The exhibitions will remain on display from 10:00am to 4:00pm weekdays, and 10:00am to 2:00pm on weekends, through until July, when they'll be replaced by the second round of exhibitions. Saturday Soccer - Nanango and Kingaroy
The eighth round of this year's local football competition will be run in Nanango and Kingaroy today. In Nanango, home team Panthers will play Wests at the Burnett Street Sports Fields, with the Women's Division hitting the park at 1:00pm, followed by the Men's Division at 3:00pm. And in Kingaroy, home team Gunners will play Barambah at the Kingaroy football fields at the end of Oliver Bond Street, with the Women's Division hitting the park at 4:00pm, followed by the Men's Division under lights at 6:00pm. A canteen will be operating at both venues and spectators are most welcome.

Proston Men's Shed
The Proston Men's Shed will be meeting at the old railway station building at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston for its regular Saturday morning meeting today, kicking off with a cuppa at 9:00am. Dance - Inverlaw Hall
A dance will be held at Inverlaw Hall on the Burrandowan Road (roughly 20km from Kingaroy) from 8:00pm until late this evening. Music will be supplied by Chris and Darryl and there'll be the usual great supper and novelties, along with a Lucky Door draw. Nanango Country Markets
The Nanango Show Society will be holding their regular monthly Country Markets at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street from 6:00am to around 12:00 noon today. As usual, the markets will feature a wide variety of craft stalls, new and used goods, plants, poultry and pets. The Nanango Markets are the largest rural market in south east Queensland and attract up to 420 stallholders. But new stallholders are always very welcome too! More info? Saturday Rugby League - Kingaroy, Nanango and Murgon
The local rugby league competition will continue this week, and league fans should head to Kingaroy, Nanango or Murgon for their fill of league action. In Kingaroy, the Red Ants will play Cherbourg's Hornets at T.J. O'Neill Oval in Youngman Street, with U6s/U8s at 11:00am; U10s at noon; U12s at 1:30pm; and U14s at 3:00pm. At 4:00pm, there'll be an U18s game between the South Burnett Eagles and Pittsworth, followed by an A-Grade clash between the Red Ants and Hornets at 6:30pm. In Nanango, the Stags will play Wondai in the juniors at Stags Oval off the D'Aguilar Highway south of Nanango's CBD, with U6s/UJ8s at 10:30am; U10s at 11:30am and U12s at 12:30pm. This will be followed by an U14s game between the Stags and Chinchilla at 1:30pm, then an U16s game against Chinchilla at 2:30pm. After this, at 4:00pm, the Stags will play Murgon in the day's A-Grade game. Finally, in Murgon, the junior Mustangs will be playing Central Burnett at the Murgon Showgrounds in Macalister Street today, with U6s/U8s at 9:00am; U10s at 10:30am; U16s at noon; U14s at 1:00pm; and U12s at 2:00pm. Canteens will be operating at all three venues and spectators are always welcome.

Kennel Jam Session - Hivesville
The monthly Kennel Jam Session will be held at the Hivesville Hotel in Main Street, Hivesville from 5:00pm until late tonight. All musicians young and old are welcomed at these sessions, and so are all music genres. All the necessary backline gear is provided, too - just bring along your guitar, your voice and your friends and enjoy a great night of music. Accommodation is available at special rates for music lovers on the night, there's free camping nearby, and dinner will be served from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.

Wondai Parkrun
The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed run at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. Murgon Men's Shed
The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding a meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.

South Burnett Rail Trail Day Trip
Noosaville's Outbike Australia will be running a South Burnett Rail Trail Day Trip for cyclists today. The day trip will pick up participants at Noosa, Noosaville and Gympie and will offer three options: an easy ride from Kingaroy to Murgon (45km sealed); a hard ride from Murgon to Kilkivan (45km unsealed); and an extreme 90km ride from Kingaroy to Kilkivan. Bus fares are $120 return from Noosa, and bikes can be hired for $20 if you don't have your own. South Burnett locals are also welcome to take part, and there's $40 rider and bike transfers from Kilkivan to Kingaroy available if you need help getting back home. More details? Two Bakeries Bike Ride - Benarkin
The Brisbane Valley Rail Trail Users Association will be running its inaugural Two Bakeries Bike Ride between Benarkin and Yarraman today. Riders will start in Benarkin at 8:00am for an easy ride to Yarraman, followed by brekkie at the Yarraman Bakery. After this, they'll ride back to Benarkin with a lunchtime stop-off at the Blackbutt Bakery. The total distance that will be covered is 48km and the cost is just $10 to cover insurance. All mountain bike riders are welcome - BYO bike - and tickets can be booked through Eventbrite.

Sistas In Sync Forum - Kingaroy
Sistas In Sync will be holding a free all-day forum at St John's Lutheran School Hall in Ivy Street, Kingaroy from 9:00am to 4:00pm today to discuss the sexualisation of children in popular culture; the effects of porn on marriage and society at large; and the risk that the sexualisation of society is leading to an upswing in domestic violence and child abuse. Swampfish & The Hinterlanders - Nanango
Husband and wife duo Swampfish will be performing at The Shed next to Scott Car Park in Little Drayton Street, Nanango at 7:00pm tonight, along with roots band The Hinterlanders, which is made of of ex-members of the Toothfaeries, Hot Rubber Glove and the Howlin' Moondoggies. Tonight will be the first time either group has ever performed in Nanango, and their show will be followed by an after party at the nearby Palace Hotel. Charity Auction - Proston
Proston State School P&C will be holding a Charity Auction at the Proston Town Hall in Rodney Street at 5:30pm (for a 6:00pm start) this evening. The auction is a fundraiser for the school's Year 6 trip to visit our nation's capital Canberra, and there'll be a lot of really great items up for bids thanks to sponsors like Burnett Tyre Services, Chris Hinton, the Stihl Shop in Kingaroy, Wooroolin Machinery, BCF Kingaroy and Sunshine Mitre 10. Admission is $20 - which includes a great meal catered by the Wondai Karate Club - and alcohol, soft drinks and water will be available for purchase. Amdram Is Murder - Nanango
The Nanango Theatre Company will be presenting the second performance of their latest production "Amdram Is Murder" (aka "Amateur Dramatics Is Murder") at the Nanango Playhouse in Elk Street, Nanango at 3:00pm this afternoon. Amdram is about members of an amateur dramatic society rehearsing for a play when one of their cast is suddenly murdered and it's a whodunnit with a difference - the play has four alternate endings, and after interval the audience will get the opportunity to quiz the cast and see if they can work out who the guilty party is (for this afternoon, anyway). Tickets are $20 for adults or $15 for concessions, and they can be obtained from the Nanango Visitor Information Centre in Henry Street. Some tickets may also be available at the door, unless sold out. Note: Two additional performances will be next Friday and Saturday night at 7:30pm.

Reconciliation Week Fun Day - Blackbutt
To celebrate National Reconciliation Week (May 27 to June 3), the Blackbutt Art Gallery will be hosting a Reconciliation Week Fun Day at the Blackbutt Memorial Hall in Bowman Road, Blackbutt from 10:00am to 3:00pm today. Cherbourg Mayor Arnold Murray will perform the Welcome To Country and there'll be live music from Val and Noel McGrath, David and Heather and the Taromeo Country Music club. Girls from Toni Phillips-Peterson's dance troupe will perform contemporary Aboriginal dance, and the Murri Rangers will also be on hand with fun games for children. There'll also be boomerang painting, art demonstrations, a display from the Blackbutt Heritage Centre and possibly another from the Ration Shed Museum. Food and drinks will be available onsite, and there'll be raffles as well. Entry is free and everyone is welcome!

2018 Burnett Bridal Showcase - Kingaroy
The annual Burnett Bridal Showcase will be held at Kingaroy Town Hall in Glendon Street, Kingaroy from 10:00am to 2:00pm today. The event will feature disaplayd by hairdressers, makeup artists, cake makers, celebrants, florists, bridal wear suppliers, photographers and many more businesses who can help make a marriage ceremony special, and all brides will receive a free gift bag. The South Burnett Pantry will be open from 8:30am to 12:30pm today at 22 Stolzenberg Road in Kingaroy. The Pantry is a not-for-profit registered charity run by a Board of Management and staffed by volunteers, and it helps low income families, couples and singles stretch their shopping dollar further. The Pantry offers $40 pantry hampers that contain most of the food and personal cleaning items that most people need to get through part of the week (though you'll need to shop elsewhere for extras or special items). Noosaville's Outbike Australia will be running a South Burnett Rail Trail Day Trip for cyclists today. The day trip will pick up participants at Noosa, Noosaville and Gympie and will offer three options: an easy ride from Kingaroy to Murgon (45km sealed); a hard ride from Murgon to Kilkivan (45km unsealed); and an extreme 90km ride from Kingaroy to Kilkivan. A free field walk through the Reinke Scrub Conservation Park at The Weir Road in Proston will be held from 9:00am today. There won't be any junior rugby league played in the region this weekend, with our best juniors off to Chinchilla to compete in the third annual Wide Bay Bulls central division carnival. But hardcore league fans shouldn't despair! Instead, they should head to the Murgon Sportsgrounds in Macalister Street for an A-Grade double header. The day will kick off at 2:00pm with the Murgon Mustangs taking on their friendly enemies the Cherbourg Hornets, with the both teams keen to recover their honour after being mercilessly smashed by opposing teams last week. These two teams always put on a good game and both will be highly motivated to come away with the points, so expect some fast-paced action here! Then at 4:00pm, the Kingaroy Red Ants will play the Wolves, with the Wolves also keen to restore their reputation after a few recent, tough defeats, while the Red Ants will be looking to continue their winning ways. Stradbroke Day - Bunya Mountains
The Bunyas at Dandabah in the Bunya Mountains will be holding a special Stradbroke Day from 12:00 noon to 5:00pm today as a fundraiser for the Lady Bjelke-Petersen Community Hospital. For $69 per head, guests will be met with a glass of champagne on arrival, along with tapas and continuous finger foods all day. Auskart Racing will be holding an away weekend at the South Burnett Kart Hire track on the D'Aguilar Highway south of Nanango's CBD today (and also tomorrow). Noosaville's Outbike Australia will be running a South Burnett Rail Trail Day Trip for cyclists today. The day trip will pick up participants at Noosa, Noosaville and Gympie and will offer three options: an easy ride from Kingaroy to Murgon (45km sealed); a hard ride from Murgon to Kilkivan (45km unsealed); and an extreme 90km ride from Kingaroy to Kilkivan. The South Burnett Endurance Riders Association will be holding their annual Nanango Heritage Ride today. This year's ride will offer three courses - a 20km Intro, a 40km Intermediate, and an 80km Open - and the event is open to all riders with horses that have complete Horse Health declarations and current Hendra Vaccination certificates, plus the $40 to $120 ride fees that apply (depending on the length of trail chosen). Nominations will open at the Association's grounds on Racecourse Road south of Nanango at 10:00am this morning, and this will be followed by a pre-ride talk at 12:30pm. After this, the rides will kick off between 2:00pm and 3:30pm, and riders will have until 1:00am to complete their chosen course. Rugby league fans should head north today. South Burnett Ministries will be holding a Rail Trail Family Fun Day on the South Burnett Rail Trail today for walkers and cyclists. Participants should meet up at the entrance to Proteco at the end of William Street, Kingaroy at 10:00am for either a 7km walk to Crawford or a 14km cycle ride from Kingaroy to Memerambi, then back to Crawford. The first day of the weekend-long Wondai Country Festival will be held in and around Wondai today. Today the festival will kick off at 7:00am and will incorporate markets (see entry below), a Parkrun, a Fun Run, and a McEuen Forest Trail Run. There'll also be a full day of live music in Coronation Park, and in the morning Cilla and Eden from Blue Gum Farm will be performing their new interactive show for children. On Saturday afternoon, the Phil and Chris Coad Family Show will be running at the Wondai RSL, along with afternoon tea. Tomorrow the Festival will conclude with a a 10km Rail Trail run, a half marathon and a full 42km marathon. Rugby league fans can head south or north today for some bruising footy action. In Nanango, home team Stags will play Kingaroy's Red Ants at Fred Kassulke Oval on the D'Aguilar Highway south of town in U6s at 8:00am; U8s at 9:00am; U10s at 10:00am; U12s at 11:30am; and U14s at 1:00pm. South Burnett Rail Trail Day Trip
Noosaville's Outbike Australia will be running a South Burnett Rail Trail Day Trip for cyclists today. The day trip will pick up participants at Noosa, Noosaville and Gympie and will offer three options: an easy ride from Kingaroy to Murgon (45km sealed); a hard ride from Murgon to Kilkivan (45km unsealed); and an extreme 90km ride from Kingaroy to Kilkivan. Bus fares are $120 return from Noosa, and bikes can be hired for $20 if you don't have your own. The first day of the three day Burrandowan Cutting Competition will be held at Burrandowan Racecourse 62km west of Kingaroy today. Today's events will feature preworks, a $5000 Novice and an Open Non Pro. The three-day competition is being run by the South Queensland Cutting Horse Association and spectators are very welcome.

Friday Afternoon Social Golf - Proston

The South Burnett Pantry will be open from 8:30am to 12:30pm today at 22 Stolzenberg Road in Kingaroy. The Pantry is a not-for-profit registered charity run by a Board of Management and staffed by volunteers, and it helps low income families, couples and singles stretch their shopping dollar further. The Pantry offers $40 pantry hampers that contain most of the food and personal cleaning items that most people need to get through part of the week (though you'll need to shop elsewhere for extras or special items). The 12th round of this year's local football competition will be run in Wondai and Kingaroy today. In Wondai, home team Barambah will play Wests at the Wondai soccer fields north of the Wondai Sportsgrounds, with the Women's Division hitting the park at 1:00pm, followed by the Men's Division at 3:00pm. And in Kingaroy, Gunners will play Panthers at Tom Alford Oval at the end of Oliver Bond Street, starting with the Women's Division at 4:00pm, followed by the Men's Division match under lights at 6:00pm. A canteen will be operating at both venues and spectators are most welcome.

Pig On A Spit Night - Maidenwell
Maidenwell's historic Maidenwell Hotel will be holding another of their popular monthly Pig On A Spit evenings from 6:00pm until late tonight (dinner is served from 6:00pm to 8:00pm). Members of Sled Dog Racing Queensland will be holding their annual get-together at Forest Road in the Benarkin State Forest this weekend to race sled dogs in preparation for next month's "Red Mile Muster" race (which will also be held at Benarkin). South Burnett Rail Trail Day Trip
Noosaville's Outbike Australia will be running a South Burnett Rail Trail Day Trip for cyclists today. The day trip will pick up participants at Noosa, Noosaville and Gympie and will offer three options: an easy ride from Kingaroy to Murgon (45km sealed); a hard ride from Murgon to Kilkivan (45km unsealed); and an extreme 90km ride from Kingaroy to Kilkivan. Bus fares are $120 return from Noosa, and bikes can be hired for $20 if you don't have your own. South Burnett locals are also welcome to take part, and there's $40 rider and bike transfers from Kilkivan to Kingaroy available if you need help getting back home. More details?
