Kumbia Debutante Ball
The bi-annual Kumbia Debutante Ball - one of the great traditions of the South Burnett - will be held at the Kumbia Memorial Hall in Bell Street from 7:00pm until late tonight. This year's charity ball has "One Enchanted Evening" as its theme, and the 2018 debutantes will be presented around 9:00pm. In addition, there'll also be live music from Toowoomba's Diamonds Dance Band to keep old-time dancers on the floor all night, a great supper and a licensed bar. This year's Ball is also a fundraiser for RACQ LifeFlight and dress is smart casual. Admission is just $20 for adults, $15 for high school students and $10 for primary school students. Everyone is welcome!
Bowls Club Bingo - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Bowls Club at 141 Youngman St, Kingaroy will be running bingo matches from 7:30pm this evening with over $1000 in prizes on offer. More details from the club on (07) 4162-1404
Kingaroy Markets
The third Saturday of the month Kingaroy Markets will be held at the Cheers Triangle end of the Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy from 7:00am to around 12:00pm today. The markets are jointly run by the Kingaroy Rotary Club and Kingaroy Show Society and feature a great array of arts, crafts, fruit and flower stalls. New stallholders are always very welcome! Proston Men's Shed
The Proston Men's Shed will be meeting at the old railway station building at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston for its regular Saturday morning meeting today, kicking off with a cuppa at 9:00am. Kingaroy Elvis Show
If you love Elvis, get along to the Kingaroy Town Hall in Glendon Street, Kingaroy tonight for a treat. Well known South Burnett performers Jeff Hancox and his friends Stuey V, Natalie Fenton and the Memphis Beat Band will be staging the "Kingaroy Elvis Show" featuring not only music made famous by The King, but also the music of Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash, Shania Twain and many others. And since Jeff and his friends are all very accomplished performers, this promises to be a really outstanding night out! Doors will open at 6:00pm and the show will get underway at 7:00pm. Tickets are $40 per head but children under 5 can get in for free. A licensed bar will be operating, too - so no BYO - and bookings are essential for catering purposes. Nanango Mini-Market Family Fun Day
The new Nanango Mini Market, which normally runs on the 4th Saturday of each month outside the Churchyard Opp Shop at the corner of Drayton and Burnett Streets in Nanango, will be holding a Family Fun Day from noon to around 4:00pm today to celebrate a new set of murals painted on the outside of the Churchyard Shop by local artist Willie Nelson. The afternoon will feature free jumping castles, fairy floss and face painting for children, market stalls and a BBQ, and everyone is welcome. More details? Phone Sue on 0419-319-981.
Men's Saturday Bowls - Yarraman

Wondai Parkrun
The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed run at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. All you need to do is register (once) online at parkrun.com.au and bring the printed barcode to any parkrun event. More details? Send an email.
Murgon Men's Shed
The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding a meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.
South Burnett Rail Trail Day Trip
Noosaville's Outbike Australia will be running a South Burnett Rail Trail Day Trip for cyclists today. The day trip will pick up participants at Noosa, Noosaville and Gympie and will offer three options: an easy ride from Kingaroy to Murgon (45km sealed); a hard ride from Murgon to Kilkivan (45km unsealed); and an extreme 90km ride from Kingaroy to Kilkivan. Bus fares are $120 return from Noosa, and bikes can be hired for $20 if you don't have your own. South Burnett locals are also welcome to take part, and there's $40 rider and bike transfers from Kilkivan to Kingaroy available if you need help getting back home. More details? The Swizzle Trio - Kingaroy
Entertainers The Swizzle Trio will be performing at the Kingaroy RSL in Markwell Street, Kingaroy from 7:00pm until 11:00pm tonight. Admission is free. More details from the RSL on (07) 4162-1755.
Nanango Heritage Ride
The South Burnett Endurance Riders Association will be holding their annual Nanango Heritage Ride today. This year's ride will offer three courses - a 20km Intro, a 40km Intermediate, and an 80km Open - and the event is open to all riders with horses that have complete Horse Health declarations and current Hendra Vaccination certificates, plus the $40 to $120 ride fees that apply (depending on the length of trail chosen). Nominations will open at the Association's grounds on Racecourse Road south of Nanango at 10:00am this morning, and this will be followed by a pre-ride talk at 12:30pm. After this, the rides will kick off between 2:00pm and 3:30pm, and riders will have until 1:00am to complete their chosen course. A Night To Remember - Booie
The South Burnett Community Orchestra will be holding "A Night To Remember" at Cassis Restaurant the corner of Schellbachs and Haydens Roads, Booie from 6:00pm until late this evening. In addition to a gourmet dinner, SBCO String Ensemble members will be performing classical, jazz, latin and contemporary pieces. Cent Auction - Wondai
The Wondai Ladies Bowls Club will be holding a Cent Auction at the Wondai Diggers Club in Mackenzie Street, Wondai at 1:00pm this afternoon as a fundraiser for the Wondai Country Club, which will be facing some big rises in its water and sewerage costs next year. Admission is just $3 - which includes a free sheet of tickets and afternoon tea - and everyone is welcome.
Saturday Soccer - Nanango and Kingaroy
The tenth round of this year's local football competition will be run in Nanango and Kingaroy today. In Nanango, home team Panthers will play Barambah at the Burnett Street sports fields, with the Women's Division hitting the park at 1:00pm, followed by the Men's Division match at 3:00pm. And in Kingaroy, Wests will play Gunners at Tom Alford Oval at the end of Oliver Bond Street, starting with the Women's Division match at 4:00pm, followed by the Men's Division match under lights at 6:00pm. A canteen will be operating at both venues and spectators are most welcome. Meanwhile - in Junior soccer - games will be played at the junior fields in Oliver Bond Street in the morning.
Live & Local - Kingaroy
The Commercial Hotel at the corner of Glendon and Haly Streets in Kingaroy will be hosting a "Live & Local" night from 8:00pm until late this evening featuring Laura J, Paula Jayne and Gav. Admission is free. More details from the hotel on (07) 4162-1380.
Rail Trail Family Fun Day - Kingaroy
South Burnett Ministries will be holding a Rail Trail Family Fun Day on the South Burnett Rail Trail today for walkers and cyclists. Participants should meet up at the entrance to Proteco at the end of William Street, Kingaroy at 10:00am for either a 7km walk to Crawford or a 14km cycle ride from Kingaroy to Memerambi, then back to Crawford. After this, everyone will gather at Crawford State School where there'll be great chicken and salad or ham and salad rolls available for just $6, along with cold drinks and free tea and coffee. After lunch, transport will be organised back to Kingaroy for anyone who needs it. Everyone is welcome!
DJ Tyson - Kingaroy
DJ Tyson will be performing on the decks at the Kingaroy Hotel at the corner of Haly and Youngman Streets in Kingaroy from 9:00pm until late tonight. Admission is free. More details from the hotel on (07) 4162-1677.
Saturday Rugby League - Wondai, Cherbourg and Murgon
Rugby league fans should head north today. In Wondai, the Wondai Wolves will play Kingaroy's Red Ants in juniors at the Wondai Sportsgrounds, with U6s/U8s playing at 9:00am; U10s at 9:50am; U12s at 10:45am; U14s at 11:40pm. This will be followed by an A-Grade match between Murgon's Mustangs and the Wondai Wolves at 1:00pm, and then two Sunshine Coast Rugby League women's open games: Noosa v Kawana at 2:30pm, and South Burnett v Nambour at 3:45pm. Meanwhile, in Cherbourg, the Hornets will play Central Burnett in juniors at Jack O'Chin Oval, with U6s/U8s at 10:00am; U10s at 11:00am and U12s at noon. This will be followed by an A-grade match between Cherbourg's mighty Hornets and the all-conquering Nanango Stags at 1:00pm that could very well turn out to be the match of the week. And in Murgon, there'll be junior games between the Mustangs and Stags today, with U6s playing at 8:30am; U8s at 9:15am; U10s at 10:00am; U12s at 11:30am; U14s at 12:45pm and U16s at 1:45pm. Canteens will be running at all three venues and spectators are very welcome!
Misfitz - Nanango
Popular local duo Misfitz will be performing at the Palace Hotel in Drayton Street, Nanango from 7:00pm until late tonight. More details? Phone the hotel on (07) 4163-1287.
The Incredibles - Kingaroy
SOLD OUT! Taabinga State School P&C will be holding a special screening of the animated family comedy "The Incredibles" at the Satellite Cinema in Short Street, Kingaroy at 2:00pm today (for a 3:00pm screening) as a fundraiser for the school's 2018 Relay For Life team. Tickets are $16 per head and include chips, drinks, a lolly buffet and a free entry in the lucky door prize draw. Everyone is welcome, and you can book tickets by phoning Jacq on 0402-289-608.
