Nanango Country Markets
The Nanango Show Society will be holding their regular monthly Country Markets at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street from 6:00am to around 12:00 noon today. As usual, the markets will feature a wide variety of craft stalls, new and used goods, plants, poultry and pets. The Nanango Markets are the largest rural market in south east Queensland and attract up to 420 stallholders. But new stallholders are always very welcome too! More info? Dance - Inverlaw Hall
A dance will be held at Inverlaw Hall on the Burrandowan Road (roughly 20km from Kingaroy) from 8:00pm until late this evening. Music will be supplied by Chris and Darryl and there'll be the usual great supper and novelties, along with a Lucky Door draw. Two Bakeries Bike Ride - Benarkin
The Brisbane Valley Rail Trail Users Association will be running its inaugural Two Bakeries Bike Ride between Benarkin and Yarraman today. Riders will start in Benarkin at 8:00am for an easy ride to Yarraman, followed by brekkie at the Yarraman Bakery. After this, they'll ride back to Benarkin with a lunchtime stop-off at the Blackbutt Bakery. The total distance that will be covered is 48km and the cost is just $10 to cover insurance. All mountain bike riders are welcome - BYO bike - and tickets can be booked through Eventbrite.
Proston Men's Shed
The Proston Men's Shed will be meeting at the old railway station building at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston for its regular Saturday morning meeting today, kicking off with a cuppa at 9:00am. Amdram Is Murder - Nanango
The Nanango Theatre Company will be presenting the second performance of their latest production "Amdram Is Murder" (aka "Amateur Dramatics Is Murder") at the Nanango Playhouse in Elk Street, Nanango at 3:00pm this afternoon. Amdram is about members of an amateur dramatic society rehearsing for a play when one of their cast is suddenly murdered and it's a whodunnit with a difference - the play has four alternate endings, and after interval the audience will get the opportunity to quiz the cast and see if they can work out who the guilty party is (for this afternoon, anyway). Tickets are $20 for adults or $15 for concessions, and they can be obtained from the Nanango Visitor Information Centre in Henry Street. Some tickets may also be available at the door, unless sold out. Note: Two additional performances will be next Friday and Saturday night at 7:30pm.
Bowls Club Bingo - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Bowls Club at 141 Youngman St, Kingaroy will be running bingo matches from 7:30pm this evening with over $1000 in prizes on offer. More details from the club on (07) 4162-1404
Swampfish & The Hinterlanders - Nanango
Husband and wife duo Swampfish will be performing at The Shed next to Scott Car Park in Little Drayton Street, Nanango at 7:00pm tonight, along with roots band The Hinterlanders, which is made of of ex-members of the Toothfaeries, Hot Rubber Glove and the Howlin' Moondoggies. Tonight will be the first time either group has ever performed in Nanango, and their show will be followed by an after party at the nearby Palace Hotel. Tickets are $20 per head and can be obtained from Nanango Real Estate in Drayton Street. Murgon Men's Shed
The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding a meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.
Wondai Parkrun
The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed run at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. All you need to do is register (once) online at parkrun.com.au and bring the printed barcode to any parkrun event. More details? Send an email.
Kennel Jam Session - Hivesville
The monthly Kennel Jam Session will be held at the Hivesville Hotel in Main Street, Hivesville from 5:00pm until late tonight. All musicians young and old are welcomed at these sessions, and so are all music genres. All the necessary backline gear is provided, too - just bring along your guitar, your voice and your friends and enjoy a great night of music. Accommodation is available at special rates for music lovers on the night, there's free camping nearby, and dinner will be served from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.
Charity Auction - Proston
Proston State School P&C will be holding a Charity Auction at the Proston Town Hall in Rodney Street at 5:30pm (for a 6:00pm start) this evening. The auction is a fundraiser for the school's Year 6 trip to visit our nation's capital Canberra, and there'll be a lot of really great items up for bids thanks to sponsors like Burnett Tyre Services, Chris Hinton, the Stihl Shop in Kingaroy, Wooroolin Machinery, BCF Kingaroy and Sunshine Mitre 10. Admission is $20 - which includes a great meal catered by the Wondai Karate Club - and alcohol, soft drinks and water will be available for purchase. Sistas In Sync Forum - Kingaroy
Sistas In Sync will be holding a free all-day forum at St John's Lutheran School Hall in Ivy Street, Kingaroy from 9:00am to 4:00pm today to discuss the sexualisation of children in popular culture; the effects of porn on marriage and society at large; and the risk that the sexualisation of society is leading to an upswing in domestic violence and child abuse. The forum will be addressed by four guest speakers, and free morning and afternoon teas will be provided (lunches will also be available for $10, if you want one). Everyone is welcome. More details? South Burnett Rail Trail Day Trip
Noosaville's Outbike Australia will be running a South Burnett Rail Trail Day Trip for cyclists today. The day trip will pick up participants at Noosa, Noosaville and Gympie and will offer three options: an easy ride from Kingaroy to Murgon (45km sealed); a hard ride from Murgon to Kilkivan (45km unsealed); and an extreme 90km ride from Kingaroy to Kilkivan. Bus fares are $120 return from Noosa, and bikes can be hired for $20 if you don't have your own. South Burnett locals are also welcome to take part, and there's $40 rider and bike transfers from Kilkivan to Kingaroy available if you need help getting back home. More details? St Mary's Catholic College Open Day - Kingaroy
St Mary's Catholic College in Kent Street, Kingaroy will be holding an Open Day from 10:00am to 1:00pm this morning. Everyone is welcome.
Queensland Winter Craft Festival - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Regional Art Gallery in Haly Street, Kingaroy (opposite the peanut silos) will be opening their third annual Queensland Winter Craft Festival at 10:00am this morning. For the next two months the Gallery will be showcasing a wide variety of locally produced crafts, and today guests will be able to view the first month's offerings (a new range will be offered next month). The exhibitions will remain on display from 10:00am to 4:00pm weekdays, and 10:00am to 2:00pm on weekends, through until July, when they'll be replaced by the second round of exhibitions. Tucker & Chop - Kingaroy
Popular South Burnett duo Tucker & Chop will be performing at the Kingaroy RSL in Markwell Street, Kingaroy from 7:00pm until 11:00pm tonight. Admission is free. More details from the RSL on (07) 4162-1755.
Saturday Rugby League - Kingaroy, Nanango and Murgon
The local rugby league competition will continue this week, and league fans should head to Kingaroy, Nanango or Murgon for their fill of league action. In Kingaroy, the Red Ants will play Cherbourg's Hornets at T.J. O'Neill Oval in Youngman Street, with U6s/U8s at 11:00am; U10s at noon; U12s at 1:30pm; and U14s at 3:00pm. At 4:00pm, there'll be an U18s game between the South Burnett Eagles and Pittsworth, followed by an A-Grade clash between the Red Ants and Hornets at 6:30pm. In Nanango, the Stags will play Wondai in the juniors at Stags Oval off the D'Aguilar Highway south of Nanango's CBD, with U6s/UJ8s at 10:30am; U10s at 11:30am and U12s at 12:30pm. This will be followed by an U14s game between the Stags and Chinchilla at 1:30pm, then an U16s game against Chinchilla at 2:30pm. After this, at 4:00pm, the Stags will play Murgon in the day's A-Grade game. Finally, in Murgon, the junior Mustangs will be playing Central Burnett at the Murgon Showgrounds in Macalister Street today, with U6s/U8s at 9:00am; U10s at 10:30am; U16s at noon; U14s at 1:00pm; and U12s at 2:00pm. Canteens will be operating at all three venues and spectators are always welcome.
Saturday Soccer - Nanango and Kingaroy
The eighth round of this year's local football competition will be run in Nanango and Kingaroy today. In Nanango, home team Panthers will play Wests at the Burnett Street Sports Fields, with the Women's Division hitting the park at 1:00pm, followed by the Men's Division at 3:00pm. And in Kingaroy, home team Gunners will play Barambah at the Kingaroy football fields at the end of Oliver Bond Street, with the Women's Division hitting the park at 4:00pm, followed by the Men's Division under lights at 6:00pm. A canteen will be operating at both venues and spectators are most welcome.
The Stools - Kingaroy
Rock band The Stools will be performing at the Commercial Hotel at the corner of Glendon and Haly Streets, Kingaroy from 8:30pm until later tonight. Admission is free. More details from the hotel on (07) 4162-1380.
Saturday Night Karaoke - Nanango
The Palace Hotel in Draytron Street, Nanango will be holding a Karaoke Night from 7:00pm until late this evening. Admission is free. More details from the hotel on (07) 4163-1287.
