Fathers Day
Today is the first Sunday in September: Fathers Day, the counterpoint to Mothers Day and probably the one time of the year that thoughtful children make their Dad breakfast in bed, get him his Ipad so he can read the Sunday news and then stay well out of his hair for at least an hour or two (especially if he was out celebrating last night). If you want to give your Dad a special treat today there are several fun things happening around our region you can take him along to - and there's sure to be something to please him no matter what his interests. Here's what they are:
Kilkivan Railway Markets
The weekly Kilkivan Railway Markets will be held in Lester Millar Park in Kilkivan from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon this morning. The markets feature an array of locally produced fruit, vegetables and merchandise and new stallholders are always welcome! More details? Stall Bookings? Phone (0407) 772-741 or visit the website.
Maidenwell Markets
If you're heading up to the Bunya Mountains today, go via Maidenwell and you can browse the Maidenwell Markets at the Maidenwell Sportsgrounds (just next to the Rural Fire Brigade HQ in the heart of town) between 8:00am and 12:00 noon this morning. These markets offer a range of arts and crafts, local produce, plants, home baking, bric-a-brac, sauces, jams, chutneys, coffee, food and lots more (there's even a jumping castle for children). Stallholder fees are very modest and all proceeds go to the Maidenwell Community Group for the development of the township. Everyone is welcome! More details? Phone Robyn on 0423-032-080.
Sunday Poker - Kingaroy
Sunday afternoon poker games will be played at Kingaroy RSL in Markwell Street, Kingaroy today. Registrations start at 2:00pm and play begins at 2:30pm. All games are free to play and there are prizes for first, second and third. More details? Phone the RSL on (07) 4162-1755
Yarraman Forestry Trail Ride
Horsetrax Oz will be holding a 25km, half day BYO horse ride for three riders around the Yarraman forestry area today. This is an advanced ride for relatively fit horses and experienced riders who like to spend time riding with a small group of friends, but horses with decent feet will be fine (BYO smoko). Riding fees are $15 to cover public liability insurance. Bookings are essential and payment is required prior to the day via Paypal or EFT. More details? Phone Melanie on 0417-634-981.
Kumbia Museum
The Kumbia and District Historical Society's museum, located in the Federation Heritage Centre behind Kumbia Hall in Bell Street, will be open from 1:30pm to 3:30pm this afternoon. The museum contains an excellent photographic display of local history and is well worth a visit. More details? Phone Josie on (07) 4164-4384 or Gayle on (07) 4164-4175.
Fathers Day Buffet - Wondai
Dimities Cottage at 49 Haly Street in Wondai will be holding an all-you-can-eat Fathers Day Buffet lunch at noon today. For a slim $20 per head (BYO), Dad can chow down on a great assortment of freshly-cooked foods all served up in the inimitable Dimities style by Chef Graham - but bookings are probably advisable, since many Dads will have the same idea today: (07) 4168-5744.
Timbertowns Woodworkers - Blackbutt
The Timbertown Woodworkers group will be holding their regular Sunday morning meeting at the Blackbutt Showgrounds in Bowman Road, Blackbutt from 8:30am until around 12:00 noon today. New members who are interested in learning woodwork are always welcome and you can obtain more details by phoning Marcia on (07) 4170-0389
Sunday Bingo - Wondai
Bingo games will be held at the Wondai RSL in Mackenzie Street, Wondai this afternoon, with eyes down from 1:30pm. There will be 3 jackpots and 15 games on offer, and the kitchen will be open for light meals. Proceeds will go to help Wondai RSL veterans. More details? Phone (07) 4168-5297.
