Nanango Autumn Race Meeting
The Nanango Race Club will be holding their annual Autumn Race Meeting at the Lee Park Raceway off the D'Aguilar Highway just south of Nanango from 11:00am to around 5:00pm today. Today's races will have a "Capes, Culottes and Cravats" fashion theme and everyone is encouraged to dress up in their best outfits and/or accessories to be in the running for some great Moffatdale Ridge Fashions Of The Field prizes. The race club's popular Champagne@the Bit Bar will be serving up platters all day if you fancy a bite; a licensed bar and BBQ will be operating under the extended covered area; the race club canteen will be open for sit-down dining; and there'll be plenty of bookmakers and an on-course tote available in the betting ring to take your wagers. There's also plenty of undercover seating and lots of parking on course. And for the benefit of people who've come to Goomeri early for tomorrow's Pumpkin Festival, there'll also be a free bus running to and from the races that will depart from Joe's Grand Hotel in Goomeri - all you need to do is phone Lesley on (07) 4163-1513 to book a seat and find out the departure time. This will be a 5 race meeting and buses will be running to the races from Kingaroy's Glendon Street Bus Depot (12:00 noon) and Nanango's Fitzroy Hotel at 12:30pm. The first race will leave the barriers around 1:20pm but gates will open at 11:00am so go-getters can get a head start on that all-important socialising. Goomeri Pumpkin Festival
The first day of the new two-day Goomeri Pumpkin Festival will be held in and around Goomeri today. Today's events include the Cooloola Community Orchestra performing at the Hall Of Memory and wine tastings at Goomeri sports grounds from 11:00am. Twilight Markets will be held in the land around the former Goomeri Railway Station at 3:00pm, and at 4:00pm there'll be live entertainment on the main stage in Dickinson Park that will last as long as the weather stays pleasant. There'll also be a free bus running from the Festival to Nanango's Lee Park for those who'd prefer a great day of country racing instead, returning after the day's last race is over. Proston Men's Shed
The Proston Men's Shed will be meeting at the old railway station building at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston for its regular Saturday morning meeting today, kicking off with a cuppa at 9:00am. Wondai Country Markets
The Wondai Regional Art Gallery's popular monthly Wondai Country Markets will be operating at Coronation Park in Wondai's CBD from 7:00am to 12:00 noon today. Today's markets will feature stallholders selling fresh fruit and vegetables, arts and crafts, useful knick-knacks and clothing. There'll also be live entertainment; lots and lots of other stalls selling great gifts and goodies; and special hand-made treasures from local artisans available from the Gallery's new "Studio" building just a short stroll across the park. The BBQs will also be firing up from 6:45am to dish out hearty breakfasts for early bargain hunters, andf today's markets will also feature the annual Wondai Hospital Auxiliary Fete with a white elephant stall, baked goods and raffle with heaps of prizes. Kingaroy Scout Group 12th Annual Show & Shine
The Kingaroy Scout Group will be holding their 12th annual Show and Shine at the Scout Den in James Street, Kingaroy from 10:00am to 3:00pm today as a fundraiser for the troop (registration is open from 9:00am to noon). Lots of different car and motorcycle classes will be judged today, and Shannon's Super Rig will also be making an appearance. QFES will be providing a Jaws of Life demonstration, the Queensland Rural Fire Service will be running a fire safety display, and there'll be a Dunk Tank onsite for anyone you think deserves a dip. Entertainer Robert Early will be providing live music, too. Adults can get to enjoy lots of food and drink stands along with a licensed bar, and there'll be a free jumping castle, merry-go-round and face painting for children. The winners of this year's Show & Shine will be announced at around 2:00pm. Admission to today's meet is a gold coin donation for spectators (under-15s are free) and registration to show your vehicle is just $10 (which includes a lucky door ticket). Everyone is welcome!
Les Miserables - Kingaroy
Les MiserablesThe fourth performance of the South Burnett Musical Comedy Society's production of Les Miserables - the world's longest-running and most popular musical - will be held at Kingaroy Town Hall in Glendon Street, Kingaroy at 2:00pm this afternoon. This is an outstanding 3-hour show with a cast of 75 singers and performers staged in a unique way, and will only be seen in the South Burnett. Last week a record 340 people saw the show's first two performances and gave it rapturous applause. Tickets are $25 for adults or $20 for students and concessions (under-5s are free) and they can be obtained at the door unless sold out earlier. Swing Jazz Night - Nanango
The Palace Hotel in Drayton Street, Nanango will be holding a Swing Jazz Night featuring swing jazz favourites from the 1920s through to the 1940s from 7:00pm to 11:00pm tonight. Guests are encouraged to dress in Great Gatsby wear and entry may be refused to those who don't. There are strictly limited tables available and tickets are just $30 per head (the last swing jazz night at the Palace in April sold out). Murgon Men's Shed
The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding a meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.
Wondai Parkrun
The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed run at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. Bowls Club Bingo - Kingaroy

Dance - Booie Hall
A dance will be held at Booie Hall at 1867 Booie Road, Booie from 7:00pm to 11:00pm tonight. Music will be supplied by Mark's Music and there'll be supper, novelties and a lucky door prize. South Burnett Rail Trail Day Trip
Noosaville's Outbike Australia will be running a South Burnett Rail Trail Day Trip for cyclists today. The day trip will pick up participants at Noosa, Noosaville and Gympie and will offer three options: an easy ride from Kingaroy to Murgon (45km sealed); a hard ride from Murgon to Kilkivan (45km unsealed); and an extreme 90km ride from Kingaroy to Kilkivan. Bus fares are $120 return from Noosa, and bikes can be hired for $20 if you don't have your own. South Burnett locals are also welcome to take part, and there's $40 rider and bike transfers from Kilkivan to Kingaroy available if you need help getting back home. More details? National Volunteer Week - Nanango
Rural firefighters and SES members are inviting the public to come along to Pioneer Park in Nanango this morning to celebrate National Volunteer Week. Activities will kick off at 10:30am with a sausage sizzle, and the fire demonstration trailer will be in action. Blazer the Bear and Bushy the Wallaby have also promised to put in an appearance for childeren. There will also be information handouts to help local residents become more bushfire aware.
Saturday Soccer - Kingaroy
After a one-week break to play the President's Cup, the local soccer competition will resume for its seventh round today, with matches scheduled for Wondai and Kingaroy. In Wondai, the Barambah Bears will play Nanango's Panthers at the Wondai Soccer Fields at the northern end of the Wondai Sportsgrounds, with the Women's Division toeing the park at 1:00pm and the Men's Division doing the same at 3:00pm. And in Kingaroy, Gunners will play Wests at Tom Alford Oval at the of Oliver Bond Street, with the Women's Division kicking off at 4:00pm, followed by the Men's Division under lights at 6:00pm. A canteen will be operating at both venues and spectators are most welcome.
Saturday Rugby League - Murgon and Wondai
The local rugby league competition will resume this week, and league fans should head to Murgon or Wondai for their fill of league action. In Murgon, the Murgon Mustangs will play Kingaroy's Red Ants at the Murgon Showgrounds in Macalister Street, with U6s at 9:30am; U8s at 10:00am; U10s at 11:00am; U12s at 12:30pm; U16s at 2:00pm and then an A-grade clash between the Mustangs and Red Ants at 3:30pm, followed by a fun Over 35s match at 5:30pm. And in Wondai, the Wondai Wolves juniors will play Cherbourg Hornets juniors at the Wondai Sports Grounds on the Bunya Highway north of Wondai, with U6s at 9:45am; U9s at 10:45am; U10s at 11:45am; U12s at 12:45pm; and U14s at 1:30pm. The junior games will be followed by a A-grade clash between the Wolves and Nanango's Stags at 2:30pm (Nanango's juniors are playing in Gayndah tomorrow, and the Hornets seniors have the bye). Canteens will be operating at both venues and spectators are always welcome.
Nanango Mini Market
The new Nanango Mini Market, which runs on the 4th Saturday of each month outside the Churchyard Opp Shop at the corner of Drayton and Burnett Streets in Nanango, will be running from 7:00am to around noon this morning. Apart from offering great bargains at great prices, the markets also have a $2 sausage sizzle, $1 soft drinks and gold coin donation tea and coffee if you get peckish. Luke Medcalf - Kingaroy

Kingaroy Lions Trail Ride
The Kingaroy Lions will be holding the first day of their popular annual, weekend-long Trail Bike Ride at Watercourse Dip north of Kingaroy today (turn at Ryke Fuel into River Road and follow the signs). The Ride offers Open, Novice and Pee Wee categories along with a raft of prizes. There's free camping onsite and entry fees are $75 for the Open, $50 for the Novice and $15 for the Pee Wee classes. Cent Sale - Upper Yarraman
The Upper Yarraman Farmers Hall Committee will be holding its annual Cent Auction with proceeds going towards the Queensland Cancer Council at Upper Yarraman Hall from 6:30pm to around 10:00pm this evening. Guests can enjoy a delicious smorgasbord of home cooked hotpot meals and dessert will be served, too. Cent auction tickets are 50 cents per sheet and meals are $290 for adults, $10 for high school students and $5 for primary school students. There'll be lots of fantastic homemade items, plants and bags of dog food up for auction, along with items from Ken Mills, The Peanut Van and PCA and vouchers from Huston Ford, bottles of wine, Masterfood packs, Hoselink and many more!
