South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
75th Annual Goomeri Show
The 75th annual Goomeri Show will get underway at the Goomeri Showgrounds at the corner of Laird Street and the Burnett Highway, Goomeri from around 8:00am this morning through until late tonight. After a few bad years with storms and floods which tore the roof off the old main pavilion and hammered the Showgrounds, this year's Show will be returning to normal with a brand new, modern pavilion and a full spread of horse and cattle events. As usual, the legenday Dark Rich Fruit Cake Competition will dominate the culinary section and there'll be good displays of farm produce, flowers and photography too; plus lots of fun family entertainment. 5th Annual Windera Music Muster
Windera State School P&C will be holding their fifth annual Windera Music Muster at the school's leafy grounds on the Murgon-Gayndah Road from 3:00pm until around 12:00 midnight tonight. The event will feature well-known country music artists Don't Ask, Amber Goldsmith, Alice Benfer and Lloyd Back amongst many others. This open air concert is a fundraiser for the school's P&C to help them purchase resources for the kids, and there'll also be a licensed bar, children's rides, great food and market stalls on the grounds. If you enjoy a relaxing afternoon and evening of great music, good company and yummy food this is a great late-summer event you simply shouldn't miss. Admission is $15 for adults and $5 for high school students (primary school and below are free). Everyone's welcome, and you can obtain more details and/or book a $10 unpowered campsite if you want to stay over or a $20 market stall site by phoning Carissa on 0488-024-582 or by emailing her. Note: This year's Muster originally planned for February 21, but had to be postponed a month due to Cyclone Marcia.
Black & White Dance - Yarraman
The Yarraman Progress Association will be hosting a Black & White Dance at the Yarraman Community Hall in Browne Street, Yarraman from 7:00pm until around 10:00pm this evening. The dance will feature Old Time, Rock & Roll and New Vogue dancing with music supplied by DC, a licensed bar and a great light supper. Tickets are just $10 per head and can be obtained in advance from the Yarraman Library, or at the door tonight. Everyone is welcome! More details? Friendship Markets - Kingaroy
The third Saturday of the month Friendship Markets will be held at the Senior Citizens Centre in Avoca Street, Kingaroy from 6:30am to around 12:00pm today. Murgon & District Cricket Club Reunion
A big reunion for everyone who's ever had an association with the Murgon & District Cricket Club will be held at the Murgon Showgrounds in Macalister Street from 11:30am until late tonight. The action will kick off with this year's South Burnett A Grade Grand Final on the main oval between Murgon Crusaders and Kingaroy RSL Services which promises some really top-notch competition. And at 12:00 noon on Field 3 near the Council workshop, there'll also be a Junior Social Game just for fun. A Junior Trophy Presentation will be held at 4:30pm, followed by a Senior Trophy Presentation at 6:00pm, and then a "Blast From The Past" game under lights at 7:00pm which also promises to be very entertaining. Afghan Veterans Day
Afghan Veterans Day - a new day to recognise and commemorate the contribution and sacrifice of Australian troops who served in Afghanistan and the Middle East, including the 400 troops still serving in Afghanistan - will be celebrated nationwide today. Maidenwell and District Centenary of Education Old Time Dance
A special Maidenwell and District Centenary of Education Old Time Dance will be held at Maidenwell Hall from 8:00pm until around midnight tonight as a fundraiser for cancer research. Guests can come and relive the good old days in Maidenwell with old-time dance favourites like the Gypsy Tap, Pride of Erin, Log Cabin, Swing Waltz, Evening 3-Step and more. There'll also be raffles, lucky door prizes, a Monte Carlo and Lucky Spot. Guests are also encouraged to bring along a plate for a shared supper, and sandwiches will be provided by the Maidenwell QCWA. Birds Of A Feather Garage Sale - Kingaroy
The Birds of a Feather Relay For Life team are holding a garage sale from 7:00am today at the corner of Arthur and Doonkuna streets, Kingaroy. Organiser promise there'll be lots of items for sale, including clothes and plants. All money raised with go to the Relay For Life cancer fun-raising.
Wondai Show Society Annual BBQ
The Wondai Show Society will be holding their annual BBQ for Show Society members, stewards and sponsors at the Wondai Showgrounds in Baynes Street, Wondai from 5:30pm onwards this afternoon. A BBQ dinner will be supplied, but if you're coming you should bring along a dessert plate to share. People who'd like to volunteer for this year's Show are also very welcome - the BBQ is a great way to meet Show Society members and discover the many ways you can help out.
Seafood Buffet - Wondai
Dimities Cottage at 49 Haly Street, Wondai will be holding another of their popular monthly all-you-can-eat Seafood Buffets from 6:30pm this evening (dinner starts at 7:00pm). The Buffets feature all your favourite fresh and cooked seafood, as well as non-seafood dishes, desserts, tea and coffee. B.A.S.S. Australia Nation Berkley Boondooma Brawl
The first two sessions of the weekend-long B.A.S.S. Australia Nation Berkley Boondooma Brawl will be held at Lake Boondooma Tourist Park today. The first session will run from 6:30am to 11:00am, and the second session from 1:00pm to 5:00pm. Winners will be announced after the third session is run tomorrow (also 6:30 to 11:00am). Saturday Soccer - Nanango and Kingaroy
The first round of the South Burnett's Evolution Solar Football League for 2015 will be played in Nanango and Kingaroy this afternoon. In Nanango, home team Panthers will play Barambah at the Nanango football fields in Burnett Street, with 2nd Division hitting the park at 12:30pm; Women's Division at 2:00pm and 1st Division at 3:15pm. And in Kingaroy, there'll be a local derby between Wests and Gunners, with 2nd Division kicking off at 2:00pm, Women's Division playing at 3:30pm and 1st Division at 5:00pm. A bar and canteen will be running at both venues, admission is free and spectators are very welcome!
Graeme Jensen - Kingaroy

Saturday Rugby League - Kingaroy and Nanango
Rugby League pre-season games will be played at Kingaroy and Nanango today against visiting teams from Caloundra and Caboolture. In Kingaroy at T.J. O'Neill Oval in Youngman Street, U18s will play Caloundra at 2:00pm; Murgon A Grade will play Caloundra at 3:30pm; and Kingaroy A Grade will play Caloundra at 5:00pm. And in Nanango at Stags Oval off the D'Aguilar Highway south of the CBD, Nanango U18s will play Caboolture 1 at 1:00pm; and Cherbourg U18s will play Caboolture 2 at 2:30pm. Spectators and supporters are very welcome at all games.
South Burnett Woodcrafters - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Woodcrafters will be holding their regular Saturday morning meeting at their clubhouse, which is located behind the Kingaroy Visitor Information Centre in Haly Street from 8:00am to around mid-day today.
