Clean Up Australia Day
Today is Clean Up Australia Day, the one day every year when all Australians are encouraged to put in a few hours helping to clean up a local eyesore (a park, a stretch of road etc) by removing litter and rubbish. You can register a clean-up event in your part of the South Burnett (or find one) by going to the official Clean Up Australia Day website. In Nanango the Nanango Tourism and Development Association will be marking the day with a quarterly clean-up of their "Adopt-A-Spot" - the stretch of the D'Aguilar Highway from Brown Street to the Tarong turn-off - from 8:30am until around 12:00 noon this morning. New helpers are always welcome! And in Murgon, Cr Kathy Duff will be leading a clean-up of the lily ponds area near the CBD. Most of the work will be on the water’s edge, but some will also be undertaken in a boat. The clean-up will start at 8:00am and go for a few hours, depending on how many helpers turn up. In Kingaroy, the Girl Guides are conducting a clean-up of the Pound Street community gardens behind the duck ponds and Senior Citizens Centre near the CBD from 8:30am to around noon this moning. Volunteers are very welcome!
