Pancake Day - Kingaroy and Yarraman
Today is Shrove Tuesday (probably now better known as International Pancake Day) and it heralds the beginning of fasting in Lent. According to historians Pancake Day had is origins in medieval times when feasts of pancakes were held to use up supplies of fat, butter and eggs because these foods were forbidden during Lent. In Kingaroy, the Anglican Ladies Guild will be holding their traditional Pancake Day celebration from 10:00am onwards this morning at the church hall in Alford Street. Admission is a slim $2 and there'll be a morning tea, a lucky door prize, a raffle, pancake tossing, entertainment and a bring and buy stall. Everyone is welcome! Meanwhile, Yarraman will also be holding Pancake Day celebrations at Heritage House in Millar Street between 10:00am and 1:00pm today. There'll tea and coffee and several different varieties of delicious pancakes on offer (sweet and savoury) for just $5, and everyone is welcome! More details from Heritage House on (07) 4163-8111.
10th Anniversary Of The Apology - Cherbourg
The Ration Shed Museum in Barambah Avenue, Cherbourg will be marking the 10th anniversary Apology speech by then-Prime Minister Kevin Rudd with a community evening from 5:30pm onwards tonight. The evening will include videos followed by acoustic songs from Cherbourg musicians, and it will be an opportunity for people to celebrate and reflect on the decade since the speech. The Ration Shed suggests families bring along a picnic as no food will be served, but everyone is welcome.
South Burnett Chorale - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Chorale will be holding their regular Tuesday practice night at the Church of Christ Hall at the corner of Haly and Burnett Streets in Kingaroy from 7:00pm to 9:00pm this evening. Nanango Scout Club Meeting
The Nanango Scout Club - which meets every Tuesday night during school terms - will be holding its regular weekly meeting at the Scout Den at 40 Henry Street, Nanango (just next to the police station) from 5:30pm to around 7:00pm tonight. The group currently has three sections in operation: Joeys (for children aged 6 to 8 years); Cubs (8-11 years); and Scouts (11-15 years). Tuesday Night Indoor Bowls - Wondai
The Wondai Indoor Bowls Club will be holding its regular Tuesday meeting at the Wondai Town Hall in Mackenzie Street, Wondai at 7:30pm this evening. Three games of 12 ends are played, lasting up to three hours, and playing fees are $3. Guests can bring their own craft along and simply enjoy the morning, but a new craft will be taught for the benefit of those who'd like to learn something new. The South Burnett Mountain Bike Club will be holding its monthly dinner meeting in the beer garden at the Commercial Hotel at the corner of Glendon and Haly Streets, Kingaroy at 6:30pm tonight. The club holds regular group mountain bike rides all over the South Burnett, and is developing forestry trail rides in the McEuen Forestry area near Wondai. New members are always welcome.
