Remembrance Day 2017

Today is Remembrance Day and a number of public services will be held throughout the South Burnett at 11:00am this morning to mark it. Everyone is welcome to attend these services to acknowledge the sacrifices made by our nation's servicemen and women in all the conflicts Australia has participated in. Today's Remembrance Day services will also mark the 99th anniversary of the Armistice which ended the First World War.
Blackbutt:
A service will be held at the Blackbutt War Memorial at the corner of Coulson and Hart Streets from 10:50am sharp
Yarraman:
A service will be held at the Yarraman Cenotaph on the D'Aguilar Highway at 11:00am (wreath-layers should arrive prior to 10:45am).
Nanango:
A service will be held at the Nanango War Memorial from 11:00am this morning (assembly is at 10:45am).
Kingaroy:
A Remembrance Day Commemoration Service will be held at the Memorial Park Cenotaph in Haly Street, Kingaroy this morning, beginning at 10:30am..
Wondai:
A service will be held outside the Wondai Town Hall at 11:00am this morning
Murgon:
A service will be held at the Murgon War Memorial on the corner of Lamb and Gore Streets between 10:45am and 11:05am
Cherbourg:
A service will be held at the Cherbourg War Memorial at 11:00am
Goomeri:
A service will be held at the Goomeri Memorial Clock in the heart of town at 11:00am (attendees should arrive no later than 10:45am)
Kilkivan:
A flag-raising ceremony will be held at the RSL Memorial Park at 11:00am
Boondooma:
A Remembrance Day ceremony will be held at Boondooma Homestead from 10:00am
Wooroolin Community Markets
The Wooroolin Community Markets will be held inside the Wooroolin QCWA Rooms on the Bunya Highway at Wooroolin from 6:00am until around 12:00 noon this morning. The markets offer stalls, a sausage sizzle, fresh produce, plants and crafts and are run on the 2nd Saturday of every month except January. Wooroolin Lions Car Boot Sale
It's all go in Wooroolin today! The Wooroolin Lions will be holding a Car Boot Sale in conjunction with the Wooroolin Community Markets (see entry above) from 6:00am to 12:00 noon today as a fundraiser for the Lions' community projects. If you're interested in running a car boot sale yourself - fees are just $10 - phone Dave on 0427-164-221. Note: Rosie from the Wooroolin Post Office will also be supporting the Wooroolin Lions by opening her nursery while the car boot sale is running, offering a great range of plants and garden essentials. The nearby Woorolin Cafe will also be open for snacks and meals from 8:00am and the Grand Hotel for cleansing ales from 10:00am. In addition, there'll be a sausage sizzle, steak sandwiches, a jumping castle and heaps of bargains. So whether you have stuff you want to turn into cash or cash you want to turn into stuff, the Wooroolin Lions Car Boot Sale is the place to be for a fun family morning out.
Wondai Parkrun
The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed run at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. All you need to do is register (once) online at parkrun.com.au and bring the printed barcode to any parkrun event. More details? Send an email.
Kevin Smith - Kingaroy
Popular entertainer Kevin Smith will be performing at the Kingaroy RSL in Markwell Street, Kingaroy from 7:00pm until late tonight. Admission is free. More details from the RSL on (07) 4162-1755
Yarraman Markets
The Yarraman Progress Association's Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways in Yarraman from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon today (ie opposite Bendigo Bank). The markets feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls, and are held on the second Saturday of every month. Saturday Night Karaoke - Wooroolin
Love2Sing Karaoke will be running a Saturday Night Karaoke session at the Grand Hotel in Wooroolin from 6:00pm this evening, and the hotel's kitchen will begin serving meals at 5:30pm if you'd like to chow down beforehand. Everyone is welcome and admission is free. Note: An earlier version of this entry had karaoke starting at 7:00pm, but the start time has since been changed.
Bowls Club Bingo - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Bowls Club at 141 Youngman St, Kingaroy will be running bingo matches from 7:30pm this evening with over $1000 in prizes on offer. More details from the club on (07) 4162-1404
Proston Men's Shed
The Proston Men's Shed will be meeting at the old railway station building at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston for its regular Saturday morning meeting today, kicking off with a cuppa at 9:00am. Barambah Shed Men Meeting - Windera
The Barambah Shed Men will be holding their 38th meeting at 2582 Gayndah Road, Windera from 4:30pm onwards this afternoon (to find it, travel towards Gayndah - the property is about 26km from Murgon on your right). Today's meeting will feature two guest speakers - Honorary Shed Man Ann Boyle who runs the meat sheep property while husband Lindsay is away drilling. Their sheep are protected by Alpacas and guests will see them tied down and shorn. The second guest speaker will be Bruce Hallewell, who grew up in Jandowae. Bruce has been a DPI officer, truck driver, warehouse manager, Mission Aid representative, vocational trainer and an Operations Manager for Vision Radio. The cost of the meeting is $15 (which includes a meal, dessert, soft drinks, and tea/coffee), but young blokes under 15 can attend for free. To assist with planning the catering, though, an RSVP by Monday, November 6 would be greatly appreciated. Murgon Men's Shed
The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding their Saturday meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.
Nanango Stamp Club Meeting
The Nanango Stamp Club will be holding its second Saturday of the month meeting at Nanango RSL in Henry Street, Nanango from 10:00am onwards this morning, followed by lunch for those who'd like to stay on for a bite afterwards. The club is the South Burnett's sole affiliated member of the Queensland Philatelic Council and promotes the hobby of stamp collecting in our region. It meets on the second Saturday morning of each month, and anyone interested in stamp collecting is very welcome to come along for a fun morning out with fellow collectors. More details? Luke Medcalf - Kingaroy

Saturday Golf - Kingaroy and Nanango
The Kingaroy Golf Club on the Bunya Highway south-west of town will be holding Diggers Day - a stableford for men and women - with a shotgun start at 11:30am. Urban Party Knights - Kingaroy

South Burnett Speedway - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Speedway Club will be holding the second meeting of its 2017-2018 racing season at their track inside the Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy this afternoon and evening. The focus of today's meeting will be Production Sedans (Australian Grand Prix), Wingless Sprints (IBRP Qld Club Championship), AMCA's (Russell's Race Engines Country Challenge Series), Street Stocks and Junior Sedans. Admission is $25 for adults and $15 for concessions and students. Under 12s can get in for free if accompanied by an adult and a bar and canteen will be operating on site, too, with the first pedals hitting the metal at around 4:00pm.
