Queensland Hydro is inviting comments on the first stage of its proposed Borumba Pumped Hydro Project.
If approved, the pumped hydro project will be delivered in two stages: exploratory works followed by the main works.
The exploratory works will investigate the suitability of the location, ie. the geotechnical conditions and the location of the vast underground cavern.
Stakeholders – including neighbours, local communities, business owners and environmental groups located near the Borumba Project – have been invited to comment on the draft document for this exploratory stage which will be submitted to the Federal Government as part of the approvals process.
The public comment period opens on Friday (February 14) and will close at noon on Monday, March 10, 2025.
The draft document outlines the current state of the environment, the proposed exploratory activities, the potential impact of these activities on the environment, and any strategies that Queensland Hydro will use to avoid, minimise or offset them.
Once the public comment period closes, Queensland Hydro will consider the comments received, prepare a summary report that explains how they were addressed, and update the preliminary documentation where appropriate.
Comments can be made via the Queensland Hydro website
Submissions can also be made online, via email or in writing to Queensland Hydro Environment Team, PO Box 12278, Brisbane, 4000.
A copy of the draft preliminary documentation can be found on the Queensland Hydro website after Friday.
