Police are still awaiting the results of a forensic investigation into human remains found in the Okeden area last week.

A spokesperson said on Monday they did not expect a formal identification to be made “for some time”.

A member of the public reported the discovery of a body near a creek on September 18.

There are fears it could be Luke Fergusson, 28, who went missing from the Stalworth area on June 9.

An extensive search of bushland and properties in the Proston, Stalworth, Abbeywood and Kinleymore areas was scaled back on June 18.

Police, SES, rural fighters, Defence Force personnel, divers and local residents were involved in the search.

Aircraft, drones and volunteers on foot, quad bikes and horseback searched a five kilometre radius around the property where Luke was last seen near Kinleymore.

The operation also covered searches of nearby townships.

Temperatures in the area dropped to below zero on several nights while the search was under way.
