Sotera Trevaskis has been appointed the new Director of Regional Development for the Wide Bay Burnett.

Regional Development Australia Wide Bay Burnett (RDA-WBB) chair Cr Bill Trevor said Ms Trevaskis began work on January 24 and will be based at Hervey Bay.

She replaces Scott Rowe, who served in the role for seven years.

Cr Trevor said Ms Trevaskis brings extensive experience in policy, strategy development and project management and has worked across numerous industry sectors including healthcare, retail, Indigenous economic development, agribusiness and government.

The RDA appointed a selection panel in 2021 to oversee recruitment for the position.

“The panel was pleased to receive a diverse range of applications from candidates who are well-qualified and experienced,” Cr Trevor said.

“It is encouraging to see that there are regional leaders with vision, drive and business experience who are advocates for economic growth and development of the Wide Bay-Burnett region.”

RDA committees are located across Australia.

They are a partnership between Federal, State and local governments to support the growth and development of regions and aim to build partnerships between governments, regional development organisations, local businesses, community groups and key regional stakeholders.

The RDA-WBB covers the Gympie, Fraser Coast, Bundaberg, North Burnett, South Burnett and Cherbourg local government areas.
