World War II veterans – or the families of living veterans – have been invited to apply for a special commemorative medallion and certificate to mark the 75th anniversary of the end of the conflict.

Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien said the medallions had been produced to mark the anniversary on August 15 and were now available to every living World War II veteran in acknowledgement of their service.

“These medallions are an acknowledgement of this remarkable generation of Australians who served our nation,” Mr O’Brien said.

“These brave Australians served our country in the far corners of the world, fighting in theatres of war from Europe and the Mediterranean to North Africa and the Middle East, to Asia and the Pacific, and also on our home shores within Australia.

“Australia can never fully repay the debt we owe to these remarkable men and women but, to mark their service, the Federal Government is producing this Commemorative Medallion and Certificate of Commemoration.

“I encourage all veterans, or the family members of living veterans, to apply to receive a medallion and certificate as a special thank you from a grateful nation for all they have done.”

Second World War veterans, or their families on their behalf, can apply online or by phone on (02) 6191-8217 during business hours.

The Commemorative Medallions and Certificates will be distributed during August.
