UPDATE: Vice-president Cynthia Hardy has been elected Acting State President.
LNP State President David Hutchinson is expected to resign on Monday afternoon at a virtual meeting of the party’s State Executive.
Mr Hutchinson signalled his intention to quit late last week in an email to party members.
“While I feel I have a lot more to give to the LNP, now is the right time for me to step aside and support my successor as they lead the party organisation to a State election victory and beyond,” Mr Hutchinson wrote.
Mr Hutchinson’s resignation follows the leak of internal polling information from within the LNP.
There have also been allegations from the parliamentary wing of “backroom bullying” from within the organisational wing.
Among those calling for Mr Hutchinson’s resignation has been Federal MP Peter Dutton who criticised him in mid-June for maintaining a commercial relationship with Clive Palmer, founder of the rival United Australia Party.
“I think (David Hutchinson) will reflect on his position and do the right thing. His position is untenable,” Mr Dutton told a Brisbane radio station.
