Take a break and survive the drive … fatigue is a killer

Operators of Driver Reviver sites can now apply for a share of $3 million in Federal Government funding.

The first round of funding will target the installation of new signs to raise awareness.

“The Driver Reviver program makes a proven contribution to road safety, reducing the risk of death or serious injury by preventing fatigue,” Federal Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien said.

“This funding is available at a critical time for these reviver sites because we can expect an increase in road traffic and intra-state road travel as COVID-19 travel restrictions ease.

“I strongly encourage all site owners to get their applications for funding (in) as soon as possible, because it’s critical to keep investing in projects like these that promote road safety.”

Driver Reviver has been operating in Australia for 30 years.

The roadside stalls are staffed by volunteers from service organisations and community groups, who promote road safety by providing travellers with free beverages, snacks and conversation.

Applications for this first round of funding close on May 29.
