An East Nanango rural firefighter in action in September … the fire risk in the region is very real

November 5, 2019

Local fire bans in the South Burnett, Cherbourg, Gympie and North Burnett council areas have been extended again.

The bans, which had been due to expire on November 8, have been extended to 23:59pm on Friday, November 15.

The bans have been extended due to the ongoing heightened fire conditions.

Under a local fire ban, all open fires are prohibited and all Permits to Light Fire which have been issued in the designated areas have been cancelled.

Power tools may be used during a local fire ban however the QFES encourages people to use these with extreme care and ensure adequate equipment is available to extinguish any fire which may start.

This may include having a person available to watch out for any ignitions that occur.

Information on fire bans and the exemptions that can apply can be found on the Rural Fire Service website

NB. Currently there are no fire bans in the Toowoomba Regional Council area.
