Maryborough real estate agent Tony Nioa has been appointed deputy chairman of Regional Development Australia Wide Bay Burnett.

The former Maryborough City Council alderman was a founding member of the Urban Development Institute of Bundaberg, is a Board member of Lifeline Sunshine Coast, chairman of the sugar industry Regional Advisory Group, Deputy Chairman of Skillshare Hervey Bay, a member of the Fraser Coast Regional Council Development Industry Reference group and a previous chairman of the Sunshine Coast Area Consultative Committee.

He is also a licensed builder, principal of PRD Nationwide Maryborough, a qualified pilot and on the executive of Maryborough City Rotary Club.

RDA WBB chair Bill Trevor welcomed Mr Nioa’s appointment and said his understanding of regional commercial, business and agricultural industries would be invaluable.

“Tony is well known and regarded across the region for his business acumen and community service and is a former chair of the Area Consultative Committee on the Sunshine Coast, a forerunner to RDAs,” Cr Trevor said.

Mr Nioa replaces Daniel Poacher who resigned earlier this year after more than three years in the voluntary position.

He joins current committee members Georgie Somerset (South Burnett), Kristy Frahm (North and South Burnett), Kerren Smith (Gympie), Julie Williams (Gympie), Ed Gibson (Fraser Coast), Tania O’Shea (Bundaberg) and chairman Bill Trevor (Bundaberg).
